Insurance- Green Card and travel insurance for Morocco list

Just tried to get insurance from BMW Motorrad thru NIG for Tunisia and it was declined.

I asked if this would also be the case for Morocco and they advised that it would.

Looks like I'm off to Carole Nash

They will only do it for Morocco if you're going on a wobmw tour

Yes, they did ask this question,

Carole Nash have been very helpful and the Groupama policy looks perfect for me. Just need to wait until early Sept when my insurance is up and change over.

Just for info, Groupama treat Tunisia the same as Morocco.

Hello from Khenafir!

I couldn't find anyone to do 30 day Maroc insurance before I left so came without, hoping to get it on the way.

There's nothing at the Ceuta border.

Tried in Fes this morning, but it was 95 Euro for a month, and we had to go back the following day to collect the paperwork... so left it. Currently have none and will probably just wing it unless something presents itself in the next6 days or so.

Loads of Police on the way down, but they're not interested in us, just locals.

Motel Rif at Ouezzane is really nice, 4 bed apartment for £20 a night, plus £2 for breakfast. Cracking evening meal with wine too, for £10 a head.

Ibis Fes... was a Western hotel. Just what we wanted. Free wifi too. :o)

Hotel Zyanne in Khenafir is good too, though we ate out tonight. Basic but tasty food in a local joint the concierge recommended. Free wifi here aswell.

Tomorrow Imilchil and the start of MH2. Can't wait!:thumb
Bit of history for you--the hotel you are in is named after the Zayain tribe who, just 95 years ago, killed 800 french troops (including 33 officers) in the battle of El Herri, about 10 miles to the south of Khénifra.

I'd be interested in what you think of the routes in Chris Scott's new book.
That, I'm afraid, is very much the case. I spoke directly with NIG yesterday. While helpful, the guys in the "Technical" department (whatever that is) were unable to provide a solution. I'm at a loss as to why BMW persist in using these people - perhaps they'd rather we didn't take our shiny motorcycles to such back of the beyond places. Maybe they're genuinely concerned for our well being. Maybe they prefer we stay home and buy more of their tawdry gewgaws.

I'm going walkabout (on a bike?) for 12 weeks at the end of December and I intend to take in both Morocco and Tunisia. I did look at the possibility of taking out green card insurance with Assurantiekantoor Alessie but the premium was 259 Euro for 1 month or 364 Euro for 2 months. To be fair that would cover me for the whole of Africa, but it's just not appropriate to my needs.

Anyway, I just cancelled my policy and signed up with those nice people at Carol Nash. Morocco and Tunisia no problem, plus full European breakdown and recovery for a paltry £50 on top of what I was paying Devitt. One more to-do item ticked off on my list. Just need to get some of those pre-moistened toilet wipes and I'm set!

As of 21/2/10, Groupama are still doing green card cover for Morocco, and so are Aviva paramount, arranged through Carol Nash.....
I just paid £21 for a month's card with them, 3rd party only.

EDIT; I switched to AViva Paramount from my previous Groupama policy because the latter do not cover 'business travel', which is what I do is classed as

When the Green card arrives double, no treble check the details.

I asked CN for mine, it came with the wrong bike AND wrong dates, after informing them very clearly, a new one arrived with the right bike but still wrong dates.
I phoned them yesterday and got a numpty on the end of the phone to repeat back to me the details for their 3rd attempt to get it right:rolleyes:

:blast As has been well publicised here Dave :augie

(There is an office in Fnideq, no more than a mile or so from the border at Cueta)

The local Police are never interested....I don't think we've once been asked for proof of insurance in Morocco.

However.....have an accident and everything changes.....They will bang you up in the local police station until they receive confirmation of valid insurance cover if you have an accident.......Now I've never been in a Moroccan police station, but I'd lay money on it not being a pleasant experience!

Last year, I spoke to a Dutch guy whose mate was in a cell and had been for three days, because he couldn't find his green card...he had one, but he just couldn't find it.

They weren't going to let him out until the Dutch insurance company had faxed a copy to the police......the reference number was no good, they had to have a faxed copy, and as his (minor) accident had occurred on a Friday, he was in the cell over the weekend

Looking back over the last 5 or 6 years, I could have probably saved £2000 in insurance by risking it, and to date, would have got away with it 100%, but the great law of Sod says that the first time i hadn't got insurance, I would have ended up with Mohammed Bubba in a dingy cell......no thank you :blast

Green Card Morocco

Green card with Devitt/Norwich Union no probs - about £30 for 2 weeks cover.

I also notice my European annual travel insurance policy from Norwich Union automatically includes Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria without, apparently, any extra charge

Green card Cover Morocco and Europe (anual cover no time limit) with renewal with Carol nash via Groupama. 210 quid, 4 yrs NC, Protected NC, Full Euro Breakdown, not bad i thought. That was today.

Just had to take out a new policy after Dial Direct informed me they wouldn't touch Morocco with a barge pole... (assuming they'd know where to look... 'Monaco, did you say Monaco..?') Frustrating as only a few weeks to run, so no refund and no extra years NCB...

Still - on the plus Carol Nash (under Groupama) have today provided fully comp insurance (to include Morocco) - and at £50 less than nearest competitor. Price included Euro breakdown cover, which gives me a nice warm feeling inside... especially as I've just completed my first 24K service...

£200 all in - which considering the fully comp cover in Morocco, EU breakdown cover and NCB protection sounded pretty dam ok...

Here's hoping I don't need any of it...:thumb

You do know that you can buy insurance at the border don't you?
I would have done that and kept my years NCB... It doesnt cost the earth...

Receieved my Groupama green card today... and guess what.. it's green! Didnt realise but theres loads of eastern Europe countries on it aswell.. aswell as places like Iran and Isreal!!!!

Green Card

Whilst you can buy insurance at the border the Groupama arrangement is on the basis of the same cover as you have in the UK - which for most of us will be fully comp.

Plus they will cover almost anywhere!!!

Travel Insurance covering Morocco and beyond

Just set up travel insurance which covers motorcycling for which your licence entiltlement is to Europe, including all countries west of the Ural Mountains, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, the Azores, Canary Islands,
Madeira and Mediterranean islands and the United Kingdom where it is not your home country.

It's with a company called http://www.holidaysafe.co.uk

The product is Activitysafe Annual Multi-Trip

Price was £35.12

Good cover and price i thought.

No cover through Bennetts.

Just spoke to Bennetts to check that my cover (with Chaucer Insurance) while in Europe was still fully comp, as it is in the UK, and they confirmed that it was.

I explained that I was riding down to Gibraltar and that when I got there, I might want to nip across the Straights to Morocco for a few days and asked if I could get some kind of cover for up to seven days riding in Morocco.

Very firm, "No" was the reply. No way of extending my policy to cover Morocco at all. Suggested I speak to a Travel Agent to try and sort something out.

Looks like I'll be buying it "in country" if I do extend my trip to over the Straights.

Green Card Arrived this Morning

Changed from Equity Red Star through Premium Choice (should be re-named NO CHOICE as none of their panel insurers covered Morocco) to RSA in October through Swinton Bikes.

No charge for the green card yet. Was a bit of a problem and took two days to sort out. Apparently two numpties in RSA said they didn't cover Morocco but Swinton persisted and took it up a level and it arrived today. Have double checked it and all details are correct first time.

RSA now cover all three bikes fully comp, whereas, only the 1200 GS was full comp and the Africa Twin and VFR750 third party with Equity Red Star for roughly the same premium.

Just renewed my insurance with CN today. Existing underwriter ( Equity Red Star) didn't cover Morocco so had to go with Aviva / Norwich Union.

£220 Fully Comp with Euro cover& breakdown for an ST1300 & VFR800. Cover for Morocco is an extra £18 Per week, though that is 3rd party only. I'm told they dont do fully comp for Morocco. I'd better be carefull and keep it right side up :)

Nope - green card is motor vehicle insurance which extends cover to allow you to ride/drive your vehicle in countries not normally covered by your exisiting insurance eg Morocco where many UK based insurers don't normally provide cover.

Travel insurance is for you personally in case of illness/accident etc. Many travel policies will not cover you for 'adventurous' pursuits such as motorcycling, so read the exclusions carefully!

hope that helps

Carole Nash, £190:00 fully comp with full EU breakdown. £18 for green card covering Morocco and that extends the cover fully comp.

Check the paperwork carefully, mine had to go back for an incorrect registration number.

Updated info from the Fens

Bike Insurance - Aviva via Devitt - Green Card issued for Morocco no probs £30 for 16 days

Travel insurance - my annual European policy with Aviva includes Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria automatically.

European Breakdown - my Vehicle rescue Direct (Axa) policy does NOT include Morocco but at £32 for 16 days cover compared to £116 from the AA with member's discount it's good value and when put to the test (refusal to re-start after a fuel stop) the bike was on the lorry within about 45 minutes from first call (when we unloaded it at the BMW dealers in Alicante it fired up first go !!!!)
