i live in West London, 9+ no claims, license since '76 never claimed and cant insure my GS in West London unless it's garaged even 3rd party only!

I'm selling it. It's a great bike but I've got an R80G/S which they will insure so it'll have to do. How many people are there like me who live in London without a garage?

PS, keep your eyes out for an 05 GS in the for sale pages!

Get out of the shitehole!:thumb

THat's the key thing about insurance. It's like a bank loan. If would actually pay out and be any use to you, the actuaries make sure you can't have it.

I know, Wapping - I know. Just feeling grumpy.

How old are you. 19?

I live in Ealing and the bike is outside year round - never had a problem with insurance :nenau

edit -- just seen your years holding a license. So why is it they will not now insure? And which company ?

West London Insurance ?

I have an older '97 R1100RS & live in Acton.
Similar risk to you with no claims & license.3 points.
Bennetts,Ebike & Carole Nash have all offered to insure it for around £200 comp.
It lives outside under a cover.
I have a ground anchor & Almax chain.
Do a bit more digging around before you sell it.

Thanks people:

I've tried Carole Nash, Bennetts, Aquote etc. My bike is parked off street, monster chain blah blah
They will insure if I don't have passenger insurance ? (That's not on, just bought my son his bike kit!) Not even third party! Go figure..

I've group insured my 2 R80s (G/S and straight) through aQuote first company wouldnt insure because of bigger tank (TUV) and front brake upgrade and the fact it's garaged 100 miles away. Got a TFT price with Chaucer £150..

Seems to be more to do with quirky systems than any logic. I live in Shepherds Bush on the main route to th cop shop and a cctv camera at the end of the street (QPR's just round the corner) it's actually pretty secure here...

Move to the highlands, £135 fully comp and you can leave the key in the ignition and go on holiday for a week and it'll still be there when you get back.:D

I've had mad quotes from £2000 downwards, admittedly i had 3 points for a red light offence, but ffs i'm 46, so anyway after digging around on t'web got a quote for 350 with pillion (whats all that about anyway, surely the're a third party) parked ouside in SE london,(sarf of the river) secured with an almax and anchor and another one to me old triumph tiger(1978 plate) so it's a shop around thing and no insurance company deserves loyalty from there customers , cus they are monsters i tell you, MONSTERS.......

@ Kintessack , where do you live again m8, seemed to of lost your address old pal ;)

Steve,
We're almost the same risk.
It must be the age of the bike.
Would you consider a slightly older one ?

Through Perth straight for 77 miles turn right keep going for 14 miles then left, straight for 23 miles left again and it's the house on the right over the river. Your welcome any time, the kettles always hot here.:beerjug:

Try Tesco Compare. I have 5 years NC, Wandsworth SW11 (admittedly same or worse than where you are). I have 3 bikes + my wifes Vespa under a multi bike policy with MCE. There is garage for 1 bike (i put the most expensive -a VFR1200) rest are on the street uncovered. Have total mileage restricted to 4k per year, no commuting, no pillion except Vespa. I am 36.

We pay £700 annually for everything. 4 bikes in total.

PS: When I had my 55reg GS1200, I used to park it in Paddington W2 where I lived at the time. On the street. No cover and I rarely bothered locking it as I used it daily for commuting. I was paying £400ish, which was peanuts vs what I was paying BMW service post warranty to keep it on the road. No one stole it. It was yellow though. And a fair bit "unkept" (oily, rusty, dirty). I wasn't exactly a careful owner to be fair (never having washed it in 4 years or properly fixed stuff on time)

Thanks wolfgang, no I'm selling...

I've managed to insure my 2 R80s (all three were on a group before). I declared an uprated front brake and a larger fuel tank and one company refused!
I wander how people get their tricked up G/Ss insured? And where do yiu stand if you don't declare a modification that isnt performance related like a diferent set of handlebars or a set off crash bars (seen them on a list off declarables online). If the inurance companies refuse to insure non standard bikes then it's that euro regulation (the one that bans modifications)
by any other name..
Anyway
Cheers
