Hi guys, has anyone got any recommendations for insurance company's? my 2012 TC is up for renewal! had a few quotes so far, Bennetts £212, MCE £195, BMW £223. Are there any benefits with the BMW insurance? I want proper cover so not really bothered for the cheapest. Have posted in insurance section and here for maximum views!

Unfortunately, you only find out how good your insurer's are when you make a claim.

There are more bad than good for Bennet's and MCE.

One question I find helpful, is to ask what they charge if I have to ammend my policy in three month's.

Out of the three BMW would be my choice.

I can only tell of my experience with BMW insurance. In 2012 I had my 6 month old GSA stolen, in the same week my friend hit a deer on his S1000RR, took his insurance (MCE) 11 weeks to tell him it was a write off, even though the frame was cracked and the recovery company that MCE sent out took possession of his bike at the scene of the accident, then a further 4 weeks to issue him a cheque.

BMW meanwhile had settled me fully (£16500) plus £1000 for my bike gear that was in the panniers within 4 weeks of it being stolen.

Your premiums are not that different but you only know how good your insurance is when you need it, I know who I would be going with in your scenario.

Good luck

Worth looking at Carole Nash as well if you need breakdown cover included, which also includes European recovery.......They were on par with the others names you metioned above.

2010 TC, fully comp, £130. Wicked Quotes was the broker. Easy to deal with and very helpful. Never had a claim so can't comment further.

BUT as someone else pointed out, consider their £30 fee every time you make a change. Do that a couple of times and you soon wish you'd gone elsewhere and arranged separate breakdown cover. I've paid them £90 in the current policy year for changes, over and above the premium. I know they all do it to a certain extent and perhaps it's my fault for changing bikes but I won't be renewing with them for that reason alone. Oh, and they fact that they take the p*** every year come renewal time and force me to argue the price down to what their own website quoted me as a new customer. They have no sense of loyalty to existing customers who apparently just offer a ready-made opportunity to screw people for unnecessarily high premiums.

Most do sadly charge, but it is how it is presented to possible customer which gives an insight into customer care and service.

Or, if they don't have a scooby about something reasonably straight forward, how on earth will they deal with something complex.

Think most of them, including car insurance, charge now for changing details.

They have always charged...it used to be within the premium. Price comparison sites and the drive of lower premiums mean that it now isn't. The upside is that if you don't change anything you are not picking up some one else's charge.

On Carol Nash et al....they are all brokers. In the event of a claim it is the underlying insurance company that counts.....I went to Aviva based on being the most comprehensive cover at the lowest rate from a mainstream insurer. I have had a car claim with them in the past and they were excellent...fast and very fair in the written off value.

Try Hastings Direct

2011 GSA £150 fully comp with all bells and whistles. this was only two weeks ago. Been with them a couple of years now but as said before I have not had a claim so not sure really how good they are...............:rob

Thanks guys lots to consider. Going to print off the policy's of the 4 I have narrowed it down to and look at the small print see what's hidden in there!

I found Principal the cheapest when renewing this year and very easy to deal with ..

Hey guys, I finally went with Carole Nash, respectable price but the cover was a lot better than most insurers, most don't seem to cover your bike on the drive while you go to open garage door! Happy with the price and level of cover, thanks for the input really made a difference in my renewal.

Neither do Carole Nash if it's between (from memory) 10pm and 6am. Between those times if the bike is stolen from within a mile radius of your house and wasn't locked in the garage/shed/greenhouse/outhouse that you tell them you keep it in then they will not pay out. At least with Aviva, who they insured me with.

Im with Bikesure and because ive fitted a private plate i had to change my insurance. Took me about 2 mins and cost me nothing. Dont know what they would be like with a claim though. Adrian Flux are the ins co.

Yeah that's right, 2200-0600 but that suits me, the bike will never be out at that time!
