What sort of price for insurance should I be looking to pay I have had A renewal quote for £466 with bmw is there any way of getting it down in price ( I have no points one non falt accident pending two years no claims bike is in the garage bmw alarm fitted) the bike is A 2010 r1200gs no mods.Is it worth having bmw insurance or go else where????? I will be going to spain on it this year.:nenau:nenau

Try Carol Nash, i have a rider policy with them, have 4 bikes on the policy, a 2010gsa, 07 x challenge and two pre 65 trials bikes, i have 9yrs no claims and only pay £232 a year, i got knocked of my bike last april, no fault of mine all paid up by third party.

I usually alteranate BMW and Carol Nash insurance as they both seem to offer discounts for new business. Over the past five or six years the cheapest quote has been to change suppliers.

BMW's renewal has just come in at £159 Fully Comp for my 2010 GS12. I have no 9 years NCB and no points. This time I will be surprised if CN can beat it as I think that is a very good quote but will try anyway.

I would phone around some if I were you

I had my renewal due last month, got a letter saying BMW no longer doing the insurance but they had passed me on to another company and renewal for my F800GS was going to be £225.00

I'm 64, never had a claim and Police Class 1 instructor :blagblah

Went to Carole Nash and got my F800GS and G650XC insured fully comp with full european breakdown, for both bikes, for £269.00

Hey Ferret, does that include full european recovery for your bikes? Fully comp? You're paying less than me :rob

09 GSA parked outside 2years NCB, I have been driving for 26 years right enough just never bothered with 12 month policies, insured through Carol Nash £245 and it includes full European break down cover, legal assist and all that and I can add other bikes onto the policy as well. One thing I would say is dont go by their web site quote (that was over £400), give them a phone.

the "pending" insurance claim will be loading your premium. Until the case is resolved you won't be given the "all clear" as the third party is entitled to make a counter claim which is a potential liability to your current insurer.

Try to expedite the claim so that it is resolved before you renew. Difficult, probably, as they issue renewal notices quite late nowadays.

I would be tempted to renew with BMW and then renegotiate the premium once the claim is settled. This worked for my mum with Direct Line as she received a refund and a reinstatement of her full NCB once the third party insurer reimbursed the payout made by DL.

Yes Micky, full uk and europe breakdown/accident recovery, must be that Grade 1 instructer thingy mijig:thumb

Also may be the area that we live in, Shropshire must be a safer bet than Yorkshire

Had long chat with CN yesterday (currently insured with them),
2005 12GS garaged 6k p.a., Eu cover etc 7 yrs ncb protected - £178, pissed off as last year was 172 (tho' brokers fees waived last year and treated as new business as the renewal was 230+, requested online quote that came back cheaper, they then ring you, much better bargaining position)

Not enquired of BMW Insurance

Ta ... probably down to the post code, this is Balby after all :(

Plus the bike's kept outside in the garden, albeit very secure and out of sight!

Bods listing out what they pay is all but irrelevant. You are not them and they are not you.

Start to make your own luck.

Pick up a copy of MCN or Bike or some sort of similar motorcycle publication. Turn to the pages of brokers / insurers plying their wares and start ringing them up. Also try E-bike who used to advertise on UKGSer; lots of bods swear by them. Haggle.

If you can beat BuMW's offer, great. If you can't, then you have lost nothing more than an hour or two of your life.

Devitts have been cheapest in recent years, but with their own policy, not the BMW one (which they admininster for BMW Motorrad). However, they took the p*ss come renewal time this year and Carole Nash were significantly cheaper and included UK & European breakdown assistance which saved me about £80 in itself as my BMW warranty has just expired :thumb2

I've insured with CN for years. I can't use BMW insurance as I have 3 bikes and one is a Triumph.

Every year I have to go through the same ritual.

1) CN send me a renewal notice

2) I ring around and get the best quote

3) I then ring CN and explain that I am considering taking my custom elsewhere. They then tend to price match or get very near. Bearing in mind that CN offer European and UK breakdown as part of their standard cover, I then tend to re-new.

I know its a rigmarole, but I do get good insurance at a better price.

Hope this helps

Mike

I've just received my renewal from BMW (Devitts), NIG who used to underwrite the BMW Scheme no longer provide motorcycle insurance, it is now underwritten by Allianz. The policy has gone up by £10 to just under £150 for a 2010 GSA, I have Full NCD and IAM discount. The only thing I can see thats changed, policy wise, is that the excess has increased by £50 to £300 and clothing cover has gone up from £500 to £1000. Location is key, if I lived 30 miles down the coast in Blackpool it would be another £80 or so.

I may check out IAMs brokers they can, allegedly, beat most IAM members renewal quotes in the majority of the cases.

Hope BMW continue to provide insurance, they seem to be consistently cheaper than anyone either than EBike, who are of course only cheaper if you don't actually need to make a claim. Putting a second BMW on the policy seemed quite cheap too.

insurance

been with ebikes for several years, sub £200 fully comp, garaged in Norwich, but i am wrong side of 40!

also worth an IAM course for the younger guys, can be worth 20% if you are in your twenties

E Bike.. Sub £100 full comp with UK and EU breakdown. Lincoln code, garaged, named disc lock, 5 yrs ncb, Ride Safe. 6000 miles/annum. Wrong side 0f 55!
