Insurance Prices

i think this thread could be summarised by saying that the different companies charge different rates for different bike/rider combinations, at different times of the year in different countries

;)
It's so depressing when you guys post your renewal figures here :tears

bike insurance

if you are only insuring BMs you could do worse than try BMW Motorrad insurance on 0845 300 4504. I have had two BMs comp with them since 2005 and my rates are a fraction of the figures being talked about.

Prior to that when I was insuring a FJ1300 and an 1150GS rates from mainline insurers were 2 to 300% of the Motorrad rates and my 1200RT was worth (aka valued at) considerably more than the FJ.

My policy is up at the end of the month:
557 for fully comp on 1200gsa
280 for 3rd party on the ktm
= 837 total (excess 200)
adelaide will do both bikes fully comp for 550 (excess 500) and i get to ride any other insured bike
think thats a no brianer :)

€628 for an 1150 GSA and DRZ400 with Carole Nash.

I live in Crumlin, Dublin so I suppose it's a high risk area.

That's close to what I paid

Sounds expensive.

Can't remember the figures for this years renewal but when I put the XC on last year it was just an 'admin fee'. This year it's included in the main policy but the price was (I think) just shy of €600 for both (fully comp)

I suggest you phone Auntie Carol & tell them what Adelaide have quoted you & see can they better their price - it's a competitive market out there & they do have room to 'negotiate' ;)

One other thing - when I compared the options I found that much of Carols stuff (breakdown, legal cover, etc) isn't included in the other offerings. And these DO have a value, as I found out when I had to get my bike lifted from the house & brought to Duffys

Just tired CN, Just over the 1000e, the difference in prices is just mad

Just off the phone with Carol Nash (they rang me knowing that renewal was due on my Husaberg).

Previously had my two bikes insured separately because Quinn don’t do multi bike.:nenau

Last years renewal

Husaberg 501 €445 TPFT only with Carol Nash

BMW 07 R1200GSA €555 Fully Comp with Quinn.

Just insured both bikes fully comp for €585 with Carol Nash.

Happy days.:thumb

650gs AXA E276 TPFT only for T900 & I,
changed the bike a few weeks ago, time to down size till i'm more comfortable with this pastime. rang AXA they sent back a cheque for E180

So, mine is up for renewal, and having obtained quotes from the others (including what I though was a great quote from Carole Nash), my Quinn renewal notice arrived yesterday - over €50 less than last year. Before haggling starts, here are the figures: 43 y/o, Waterford, 4 yrs NCB, full license (20+ years), 2004 1150GSA garaged, Comp cover:= Carole NAsh €403; Adelaide €477; AON/AXA €501.
Quinn's renewal is €337 including their fee for a monthly payment plan.
CN excess is €325 compared to excess on Quin policy of €250.

I was all set to opt for auntie Carole as I've felt "exposed" for the past year without breakdown cover (even if its not a 1200 that I ride :D). But now I see Breakdown cover on my Quinn renewal. Thats good news IMO, as it was a major omisson from their policies.

"BREAKDOWN ASSISTANCE
Policy now includes QUINN-direct Assist Cover. This entitles you to up to 1 hours roadside assistance and if your motorcycle cannot be repaired at the roadside, we will take you to the nearest garage (nothing about it being a motorcycle specialist....). If your motorcycle cannot be repaired at the scene, we will provide either:
* Transport for you to complete your journey; or
* Ones nights B&B accommodation, while repairs are completed.
Please refer to policy booklet (not supplied until you renew!)"

It goes on to say that this includes Homestart, 24 hour roadside assistance, vehicle recovery as well as journey compeltion.

It would appear to only cover breakdowns in Ireland...

Can someone post the terms and conditions of the Carole Nash breakdown cover???
For the difference (before haggling :augie) of just €50, I'll probably still go back to them..... ;)

i'd get over to biker.ie and read some peoples experiences with the Quinn breakdown cover as I'm pretty sure I've seen it mentioned. Woeful to say the least - might as well not have it.

Also be aware that if you start paying Quinn by direct debit, and you pay off the policy at some later date, then for some reason decide to end the policy early (eg you get a second bike and want to move to a company that does multibike) you are due absolutly nothing back, plus you are charged €50 to end the policy, so it could cost you. This happened to me - I paid off the policy early with months left to run and was told the above.

I'm also having a run in with CN at the moment. I bought a policy off them mid January and changed the bike (bit of an impulse) 3 weeks later. In that 3 weeks I never got any paperwork from CN. So with the new bike I rang CN to change over and they quoted me around 40% extra which i thought was a bit excessive. So rang Adelaide and found it a good bit cheaper and got back to CN to cancel the other policy. They said I was due around 25% of my premium back for a policy that was 3 weeks old. I nearly lost the head but they said it's all in the paperwork sent out which i told them i never got. Basically they said that's my problem because as far as they are concerned they posted it and because i didn't get back within a week of the paperwork going out I had agreed to it.

Needless to say I contacted the financial regulator who put me onto the insurances regulator so hopefully they'll sort it out for me.

My advice - ring Adelaide with your other quotes and see will they match them.
