Did i read it correct that someone said they have to ring their insurer to tell them when they will have their bike parked at hotels
I think this
might be true.
I've been insured through BMW Motorrad (Red Star/Devitts) for years. I added a second bike on the policy a few years back and we had to go through again the "parked in a garage at night" thing, as the bikes are in two different locations.
I wish I recorded the phone conversation because it was delirious/hilarious at some point.
The "traveling" bits for the policy are not indicated on the paperwork that gets sent home. So I asked what happened if I had the GS stolen while on vacation and clearly not at the garage near my home in London.
– "It will be covered if you're traveling sir".
– "How do you specify if I'm traveling? Do I have to be out of the UK for some days? Do a 2 days trip to Norfolk goes as "traveling" or is it just dogging? Do I have to call you guys?"
Also, at the time I didn't have night time access to said garage. So I asked what happened in case I returned from a week long vacation from France at night and had to park the car outside my home for one night only?
Will that last night be still considered traveling or not? Would the bike be covered? Would just the excess apply?
Response: "I don't know sir".
Mind, insurance is a business like another. I understand their requirements and all... but when I have to shell a couple grands on the phone for my policy I'd rather have some more clarification on stuff like this...
