Anyone got any recommendations for insurance companies ?
Just ordered 1300 GSA Triple Black and I’m getting some eye watering quotes
60 years old and maximum no claims in North West England

Depends on your definition of "eye watering" ? For me - £300 would be eye watering ... for others that would be a bargain !
Bike Sure were good for me last year - I suspect this year it will be someone different (pain in backside - 3 hrs wasted every year)

A common occurrence it seems with new R1300GS. You don't mention which bit of NW England or the premium. I believe premiums in Toxteth might be a tad different to Moor Cock in Bowland so it is difficult to get a sense if your premium is realistic or high. Do you have a garage or secure shed?

Nobody here will have the same risk profile as you so you need to get on the phone and see if adjusting some variables such as excess, security and moving somewhere less risky is viable. Start with the obvious like BMW, Bikesure, Carole Nash, Bennetts and Devitt and also try any local brokers you might have left in the area. Ultimately, there is only a handful of underwriters and we already know the bike is considered a huge risk for theft. If your postcode makes that worse then all of the underwriters will be loading the price.

Location is Barnoldswick in Lancashire
Cheapest quote so far £1100 with a £1k excess, garaged and security
Carole Nash want £1500
Renewal on 1250 GSA with Bennett’s just under £400

Bikesure are a bit funny to deal with this year.
I am going from two bike policy ( the wing, and an NC750) for which they royally fleeced me at renewal.
I ring about my new bike (Nt 1100) initially it was just going to cost an admin fee. Now they wanted another £108 for a smaller less costly bike on 6000 less miles and no commuting.
Needless to say I’ll be looking elsewhere at renewal time.

Have you tried the bike insurer website?

Unfortunately the wankpanzer exceeds the £20k threashold where many insurers get twitchy, while others think of a number then treble it 😕

It is the price of the bike that puts the insurance through the roof, anything over £19,000 results high prices and some companies refusing to quote. If you buy one I expect the insurance will be much cheaper in the second year as the value of the bike will probably be below the 19k threshold.

I found Bikesure did the best deal for me on a R1300GSA, but speak to them directly, they shaved almost £400 off the prices the comparison sites were giving for me.

Bennetts would have been cheaper but initially they wouldn't quote for me online because of a 'non-fault' accident my wife had in our car, which is insured in my name. When I removed this accident off my quote they gave me a price about £100 cheaper than Bikesure. Unusually, Bennetts only ask you to declare claims in the last 3 years, instead of the usual 5. As the accident happened in May 2022, the 3 years was nearly up, so I phoned them and pointed this out, my query was referred higher up but, unfortunately computer said no, and they wouldn't provide cover. I wasn't going to wait 2 months to save £100. :p

Good luck!

based on what I have read on here, you are unlikely to shave much off that £1100 until the bike is a year old and the "replace with new" no longer applies
I think this is a lot to do with it, and the fact you have no history of owning said bike, and keeping it safe/not binning it etc. A year down the line you have proven an ability to not have it get it stolen etc.

for me it was
year 1 £1k
year 2 £400

I’ve been proving that for 30 years of riding, never had a claim on any type of insurance
Seems to me insurers are just greedy and won’t accept risk anymore
Step son is paying more in insurance than he paid for the car he drives

That's strange coz i'm in Barlick and mine is less than half that with an R nine T as well. Carole Nash.
Oh ye i'm 62

Just bought a r1300gsa last week - current insurer on my r1250gs was Carole Nash (£350 ish for the year) - they refused to quote.

Most online companies were quoting £1000 - £1500 - age 50, posh postcode, garaged, 5 years no claims.

Ended up using performance bike - they came in at £650 but needed to use the phone.

Mine was a year old in March and it didn't make any difference to the price at renewal

That's the one - performance direct.

Cheapest quote I could get (Ageas) - but couldn't complete the transaction online, had to phone up.

Other than needing to call - pretty straightforward.

BMW (Devitt) refused to insure me a couple of years ago for a new GS at £16.5k, Said it was too expensive. I said "tell that to the mother ship" and went to Bikesure.
