Interesting Job in yesterday.. dropped valve.

Delivered all the way from France for me to find the problem and fix it after the owner was quoted ridiculous costs in her home country.. The dealer had suggested the engine had broken a con-rod, even though the bike started and ran on one cylinder but with a very loud knock (a twin cylinder engine with a broken con-rod wouldn't run at all) and with a repair bill running into thousands or the possibility of the bike being scrap -

Turned out was a dropped valve that had embedded itself into the piston, after ricocheting around the head.. So a fairly straightforward repair

Righthand cylinder. Low mileage bike, i think it's a 2005 model, french number plate so can't tell by the reg. Everything else looks normal.

That head casting looks only lightly damaged. New seats, or a complete new head ?

I wonder if it's been dealer serviced and had the updates done. There were several revisions to the fuel map on the early 1200's. The head tech in my local dealers told me that failures on the right hand pot of early bikes was due to a coding error which made that side run too lean.

Yes the pic clearly shows the final drive was ok and its a gearbox issue as a result of the long way round, they used inferior products and mass produced stuff that has caused problems for a Galec friend..
