Having recently bought an R1200RT (changed from my R1150GS), I bought a fairly base spec model of RT which did not come with the radio fitted.

Reason I did this was that I thought the radio could be a bit tacky when being played through the speakers, little did I realise then that it could be made to play through my Autocom!

Question's are:

1. Should I look to find a second hand BMW radio and 'retro-fit' one back onto my bike? (Wouldn't want the CD player, just the radio) Also, would that be easy to do?

2. Would it be better to buy a DAB/FM aftermarket radio and fit that onto the bike and then run it through my Autocom? If so, any recommendations?

Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Option 1 entails a lot of mucking about. I would go for a little FM radio (or even use the mobile phone if it does music) and plug that into the autocom. The batteries should last for hours if you use the autocom to provide the volume and keep the radio volume really low.
I specified my RT with a radio and I'll never get the money back at resale time.
