Ok, some days they work, some days they don't! Both sides are either on or off. If I stop and restart the bike just after setting off, realising they ain't working, they usually work. This has been an issue that I have struggled to replicate over 3 winters at a dealer. They have had it in when it was under original warranty and couldn't find anything.
I read that it's a battery related issue etc. so I replaced my battery with a brand new MotoBatt last week. Issue still exists. Last few times it was serviced a heated grip error showed on the 911 (as expected as I know about the issue and this was cleared on the 911). It didn't say what the error was as explained by Steppers. I read that on some 08 models there was a voltage error (http://www.r1200gs.info/forum/14-maintenance-modifications/4558-diagnosing-heated-grips-problem.html)
So, if I take it to a dealer am I right in thinking, they wont test too much, and just replace parts until rectified (nb given that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, they'll not be able to say 100% that it is fixed!), surely they will just recommend a replacement of the heated grips. If that doesn't work, they'll say its the switch gear that needs changing...and if that doesn't work...on and on the cost (and my time) will go...
So, what does the collective suggest for a remedy? Will an independent / or me be able to work out why and how to diagnose where the problem lies?
