Interphone Bluetooth Helmet Kit

Nothing!

The new update is absolutely unhelpful!

Unfortunately there is the usual issue: the master Interphone connect always and only to Zumo and you can't disconnect it from the Zumo and connect it to the other Interphone (normally the passenger). Interphone became a dedicated headset of the Zumo and until Zumo is on Interphone is unable to operate as a real interphone driver/passenger.

I'm very disappointed!

Nothing concrete from Garmin as yet.
Thanks for the 'nudge' - I'll pass it on to them, and hope for a response.
The UK support guys are usually pretty good, but they are very dependent on the engineering team in the USA.

Can anyone with a Zumo 660 check to see if the BT software has been update from 3.30 yet on the Garmin updates site?

Malcolm ? Anyone ?

This Garmin's response:
Dual SCO connections refers to the fact that we have two Bluetooth connections to the zumo 660—one from the phone and one from the headset. The Bluetooth stack provider for the zumo 660 told us that we were required to operate as a master in order to get dual SCO connections to work with their Bluetooth stack.

The zumo 550 most likely handled this situation differently. The zumo 550 had different Bluetooth hardware and a different Bluetooth stack. When working with BMW on the Navigator IV version of the 660, we had to have their helmet provider modify their software in order to get intercom mode to work properly.

This means that they ignored all the work we did (together) to make the Interphone and 550 work well together.
They seem to think that it's up to us to modify Interphone - not realising that doesn't help with all the units in the field.

It looks to me like a fundamental incompatibility issue if you want gps and Intercom/Interphone.
Interphone works great with 660 (and Nav4) as a single headset - it's just when you want intercom too the problem arises.

I'll keep on at Garmin...

Has here been any progress on getting the Zumo 660 working with the Interphone.

I am wanting to buy an Interphone F3 but this is a showstopper for me.

Any information would be welcome.

Tom

There has been some progress;
We are working on a 'fix' from our end, since the new F4 Interphone has the capability of the having the firmware upgraded.
But you'll need the F4 to use all of the capabilities of Zumo 660 or Navigator 4.

Watch this space for news of our latest development, taking the best of Interphone and Autocom...

This is fantastic news! :clap

I love our F4s and have just accepted that we use it as either bike to bike or rider to Zumo/phone.

Bring it on... :thumb2

The possibility of upgrading the firmware sounds good- but is this upgrade something the end user will be able to do, as I note that current F4's do not appear to have this facility, or is it something done in the factory and then not upgradeable once the unit has shipped?

For me, with a pillion and a gps, this is an issue which is preventing me from purchasing an Interphone.

If I just want to listen to the 660 and music, is the F2 the best option for me and can you hear OK whilst at motorway speeds. I've an system 4 helmet?

So... since nothing has been posted since August from Interphone, is it a dead duck? :nenau
I bought an F3 set before going to Italy in July and of course, found it didn't work - despite advice from various sellers that it would. Hmm.
I've never managed to connect the F3's to the Zumo 660 at all, whether paired first or just me riding solo wishing to hear the GPS. iPhone pairs no problem solo or when we're both out although I don't actually use that facility. But it was the "hear GPS and speak to pillion" angle I bought it for.
Has buying the F3's been a waste of money? The reason that I didn't go for the F4 was that I didn't need bike - bike. But if that was the only way to hear the GPS I'd have paid the extra. I mean, there's nearly £600 in kit that doesn't communicate there! :blast

Interphone F3

I have F3 and it has worked well. Bought F3 as against F4 for same reason as ghiribizzo. Was assured that it would connect to mobile phone and sat nav and still work as intercom between me an passenger (main reason I bought it.

Was considering buying zumo 660 but it seems clear that it will not work with F3. I take the silence from Interphone to mean that they can't sort it out. Am I to infer from the thread that the F3 will work OK with the 550?

The more I read about Garmin the more I think I'll stick to maps. I find that kit that does not work properly is worse than not having the kit at all.

Mmm. A bummer indeed. I'd the 660 before getting the Interphone. Ho hum.
I'd still buy a 660 over other kit at the moment. It's a pity that the sellers of the Interphone aren't a bit more clued up about the fact that it's not at all a plug n' play deal with the 660.

Just annoyed that I feel a bit duped into getting a non working bluetooth kit that offers initially 'clipped' speech. I'm happy with the way it operates otherwise!

Tomorrow may be a sunny day though...

Well, today is a sunny day and I thought I'd give it yet another go.
Cannot see that I did anything other than what I'd done before but it works.
So I have to have a bit of that Humble Pie and yes - it works. It works well!
So a Zumo 660 onto an F3 kit does work.

Sounds hopeful although always a little apprehensive when electronic apparatus is not predictable in its operation. Can you still use the intercom when connected to Zumo? I really don't care if the mobile phone connection works or not but being able totalk to my pillion is main priority. Be interesting to know if it all connects up OK when you next use it

Not in my experience (not practically anyway) but I'm hopeful that an Interphone firmware upgrade will improve matters...

That's a 'no' then...
Once the helmets were communicating, I turned on the GPS and once I'd selected that it should connect to the F3 it apparently did so. It stated it had. So it seemed positive until I selected a destination on the GPS. As soon as the GPS started to offer route advice I heard the familiar 'lost connection' bleeps from SWMBO's helmet and before she could say she'd heard that, I got Bluetooth Connection lost or similar on the GPS screen and the audio directions came from the GPS unit's speaker.

So it seems that with a pair of F3's, rider-pillion is ok but no GPS - which backs up what I found in Italy when I was in a mood for not letting it hassle me and sorting it later.
GPS to rider ok, but no pillion communication if the GPS is connecting. Which is not what it would have you believe on the box...

I can understand if the thing unfortunately doesn't work fully with this particular GPS unit but again, the sellers seem to be unaware of the fact. Nothing on the website to say that and no response at all from the Italian firm that brands them (although they're made in the Philippines) even though the email was sent in Italiano...
No response recently from our man on here either. I dont know if this is the same experience with F4 units.

Happy days. Not.

I now have Nick from Motohaus on the case. Motohaus are the current distributors in the Uk and he states that they are forging good links with Garmin including receiving a 660 from Garmin today.
He said that they were aware of the previous firmware issues with F4's but not aware of any problems with F3's.
They are now!:D
He is off to try their 660 with some F3's in stock and is going to check the firmware number of units they have in with the firmware on my two.
He's also given me a particular order of set-up to try to see if that may allow them to work.

So I'm off to the spare room again.
Later...
