f4

I've not had an issue with mine.:nenau

REALLY,, can you point me in the right direction. can't get my phone and satnav paired together the f4 it will do one or the orther but not both , also it will only work through one device, any help, would be appreciated.:thumb2

I have no intention of giving up my Autocom, but.....

....hopefully an F4 user will come along and confirm that a firmware update on the F4 sometimes cures such problems.

I think there are a few tricks to getting this equipment going properly.

John

There are firmware updates available. It's a hassle but you can send the unit to Interfone and they will update it for you (why you can't download it is a mystery). I use an iPhone 4, TomTom Rider (the latest one), and it all works fine. Not sure how I did it, but I've never had an issue.:beerjug:

I use Interphone F4

The F4 is paired to the Garmin Zumo 550 as a headset and my IPhone 4 is paired to the Garmin Zumo 550 as a phone.

This gives me phone and satnav and intercom. Both the first two will override the intercom.

But I usually use it paired with just the iPhone 4 as I get music phone and intercom and I use the Zumo as screen only.

But it is true they cannot cope with multiple devices as efficiently well as wired intercoms such as Autocom & Starcom.

Tribe

Interphone have just brought out this to address some of the issues with connectivity and range:

http://www.interphoneuk.co.uk/products/interphone-tribe

Local dealership tried to sell me one the other week because I've got an F3 on my helmet. I resisted because it's another £110 and in truth I don't use the F3 enough. I soon got out of the habit of intercom use with SWMBO. I prefer the sound of the exhaust (sorry Magnet).

The F3 will manage GPS and phone. The only limitation is music which mono only.

Hi if you call 01256 704909, That will get you through to Motohaus, we are the UK distributor for Interphone. They should be able to assist you over the phone if not we can get it back here test and replace it for you.

Let me know if you need any more help.

I have an F4 ....

the good stuff

- Pairs easily
- Clear up to 90 with earplugs
- intercom with pillion really clear
- bike to bike range and clarity surprisingly good
- phone and voice activation outstanding
- Garmin 550 very good

the bad stuff

- when paired to the sat nav it causes the pillion intercom connection to break down...not impressed
- higher than expected back ground noise, I can hear cars passing and wind noise fairly constantly....a bit annoying. I thought it was voice activated and not "always on" unless I have done something wrong.
- if phone and sat nav connected and either is used, it blows the other out.

so, a pretty good bike to bike, good pillion but I would have to concur that it is not quite there on multiple connections which is a shame because so much is good.

Hope this helps

I bought a Tribe as a gift for my f4 equipped riding buddy ahead of our European tour so we could communicate, I have Autocom/Puxing. Not particularly impressed as it's meant to be a matched Interphone product.

F4 seemed only to be able to pair with either his phone (which is running sat nav software) or the Tribe, not both. I had to use hand signals to indicate that I wanted to speak to him and that he should manually switch over... :(

Autocom seem to be able to handle comms, music, sat nav and phone in a logical, relatively seamless and automatic manner. The f4 should be as good yet it appears to require manual switching between functions :nenau

The Tribe transmitted OK, though the VOX frequently opened the channel on his engine noise (Ducati 996 with Termi's admittedly). The volume at his end was always low but varied between inaudible and barely audible. We got cross-talk with other PMR users and the problem was the same so it's not my set-up at fault. We made quite a few calls to Sam at Chainspeed where he bought the f4 and I the Tribe, his suggestions, though well intended, didn't help very much if at all. We've spent a lot of this trip (last day tomorrow, still 200 miles to Calais and 200 miles in UK to go) trying to get this working effectively. Results seem sporadic with the ability to communicate effectively being dashed by a disconnect and reconnect of the f4/Tribe. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the results that we could establish, once things did improve to the just audible state they only stayed that way until the pairing was disconnected.

It has been of some use, when it felt like it, and the range, though not anywhere near as quoted by the manufacturer, is usable.

In the past I've had no issues talking clearly to other PMR users with similar set-up to mine (Autocom, Puxing/Kenwood/Cobra, PTT).

Unless there's a firmware fix or other solution forthcoming then the Tribe will probably be returned as not fit for advertised purpose. For the price it should work in the manner depicted in the swish adverts.

Wired is the way I'll be staying, that's for sure. Just wish I had managed to convince my buddy that was the way forward before he bought the f4....

F4 twin set

OK - been using mine for a while now, so can report
1. On their own it works great with my iPhone 3GS - both A2D2 and stereo music
2. Rider to pillion - works great too
3. Rider to pillion and iPhone - not had any problems with this set up either

Charging is easy so no problems there

Don't have sat nav, and don't have any biking friends so can't comment on those options

Just my 2p worth!!

As an experienced f4 user can you please clarify the above; Does the Rider to Pillion and iPhone work seamlessly. In other words, if you're listening to music and either you or the pillion speaks the music reduces/mutes and then comes back when you're done? No manual pressing of the MFB?

I guess it depends on your use and expectations. Personally, all I want is person-to-person communications and voice commands from my ZUMO 550, I may get one of those Bluetooth A2D2 thingies to plug in to my mp3 player at some point in time but I certainly have no desire to connect a phone to it, I couldn't think of anything worse!!!

Can any f4 user clarify if they have the ability to use their Interphone to talk to pillion, listen to music, hear sat nav and converse bike to bike without having to manually switch between these separate channels using the button on the f4 :nenau

OK, I only have the F3, as I've no mates :nenau But in use with 550 and intercom, the GPS instructions override the intercom, then it cuts back in on it's own, with no action from the users.

have been using the f4 for bike to bike with missus - works great. really useful not havingwires when talking with helmets on having got off or getting on the bikes etc. range is impressive, several hundred metres - fine, seems much clearer than when i have borrowed radios. have also got a tribe and will report back on this when i get more usage communicating with others who have largely got pmr radios and autocoms. i don't think the f4 is rubbish.

Right, having read some of the F4 feedback I reckoned mine was not up to scratch (as mentioned earlier in the thread. Rang motohaus who took them bakc and checked the firmware. There was a problem and they replaced them with no problems.

The newer set are much more reliable...the back ground noise is much reduced and the sat nav no longer screws the pillion link. Bike to bike range seems improved as well. Having just got back from the Pyranees I have to say the kit worked well and based on my latest experience I would recommend it.

I would also recommend Motohaus(?) as well...superb customer service.

Cheers

Thanks for the positive appraisal. It's just so easy to make a sweeping statement and say such and such product s rubbish without giving the manufacturer or seller a chance to sort things out.

Full marks to Motohaus for taking it on board and getting a good solution.
