Introduction to Airheads

If mileage is near 60,000 kilometeres [40K miles] think about doing exhaust valve change :thumb2 and whilst your down there, if cam chain is starting to rattle, change it, both simple jobs that give you a chance to also inspect other stuff :augie
such as an almost rusted through pushrod tube in my case
4 stainless ones later, jobs a good 'un :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

As with any bike it depends on if it's been loved. The Proff list is as good as your gonna get. I'd also have a good squint at the loom to avoid the unexpected and lube the shaft splines/detailed visual inspection of the back end in general. My black 100gs was a dog and I had to rip it to bits and rebuild to get any reliability (very character building). In contrast my current steed has been pampered and has been faultless apart from a few electrical snags. You also seem to accumulate spares with airheads "Just in case".
I'd get it home and service it for piece of mind.

The bike has had an almost complete strip down not too many miles ago by someone who like his bikes :bow and likes to look after them :bow

It seems to me that with the airheads, just like the older 1100's you need to keep on top of the electrics before it gives you sleepless nights. I'm getting the Clymer manual, and as I've got a flight the day after I pick up the bike to the other end of the world (literally) I'll be having a good read of it :)

Reading bike manuals in a public place? Very pervy. Manuals and instructions are for people who don't know what there are doing. Don't worry, after six months riding you will know the bike intimately.

I know what you're saying and how true :o but you have to learn somehow, and it you can learn without making expensive mistakes, so much the better :)

Stick it inside one of them top shelf magazines, no one will notice it then and of course should you get bored of Mr. Clymer you can find some snaps of Miss Clymer.

"Whats that you're reading"
"Big Jugs and Spank monthly"
"Oh, thank feck for that, last month I had to sit next to someone for 9 hours reading bike maintenance manual, kept looking at all the pictures and made moaning sounds"

Best but another bike for the garage, then the cost of the garage per bike has halved ;)

One of my bikes has relocated to Leamington Spa.
Son decided he "wanted that one" so took it up to him on Tuesday as we were on way to Walsall for other things.
Took us all our persuasive techniques to get pics, within 5 minutes he was off !!
apparently he's done 500 miles since Tuesday night !!!:thumb2
