Quite a long way from the top
March 25th -29th I’m going to ride the NC500. Given I’m from down South and therefore drink shandy, I’ve decided I’ll take the bike in the van to the start and hopefully collect it later. I’ve done that motorway drone on two wheels four times and the van is better

Is anyone aware of somewhere that would permit that, either in Inverness or somewhere not too far away? I’m guessing five days for the round trip.

Several Tesco's and the Asda at Fairways where you could park up without questions asked, also the Travelodge car park up at Fairways is "free" has always got tons of space and is pretty quiet, there are no camera's logging reg numbers for parking systems. I've seen plenty of trucks parking overnight there when I was working regularly in Inverness Mike and the Hotel staff never batted an eyelid.

ALL Tesco car parks have cameras, and a three hour maximum stay.

That rules them out then :) I know the Travelodge does not. I have a few contacts at the University / Inverness College so can ask the question if it helps?

I have a client in Perth who rents a warehouse at the harbour.

He might be able to help.

Good info all

Fluff, if you could mate as long as it’s no bother

We stayed at this lovely campsite just outside of Inverness. Get in touch with them, I'm sure a they wouldn't mind for a small fee.

Cheers John, looks a great place

Davel, I’ll come back to you if ok? Much appreciated

Absolutely

They have a blacksmiths and workshop there and they also rent motor homes out too

Sure they’d try to help

Or park it almost anywhere in the Longman Industrial estate ! Plenty of side roads spots where you can park a van or car..as long as it isn't a particularly nice van or car.
Better still, down along the sea front in North Kessock, shouldn't have any problems there :beerjug:

Premier Inn Millburn Road didn't look to busy last March, or near the Canal @ Telford Rd?

Use the 'your parking space app' and for full days in inverness on the dates you suggest the total price is - Tesco = £31, Morrisons = £30.00 and Wickes = £18.44.

I use the app often and really good,

If you could cope with leaving the van a bit further out, it may be a lot easier. For instance Aviemore springs to mind! I've also overnighted in my van at the car parks near Loch Garten with no issues...

good morning OP.....the NC500 is a nice ride. I did similar to what you are dong on a trip in the highlands, drive up in van bike in rear etc, but I stopped in Oban. I obviously stayed at a B and B for the first night and timed it so I would get back there for my last night before travelling south. Hence I spoke to the owner of the B and B to ask permission to leave the van there for 4 nights ,they were fine. Not sure if you are starting and finishing in Inverness , Thats the full 500. have a great trip

I'm about 40 miles east of Inverness but you're welcome to leave it at my place, safe and secure, if you want.
The weather could be crap up here at that time of the year.

I’d forgotten about this app, thanks.

Thanks very much

Just looking at places to stop during the tip. It won’t be a mile chaser, more a leisurely ride seeing the sights. Looking forward to it :)

that one dropped off my reply Khulu, humble apologies :beerjug:

Very kind gesture and much appreciated - I’ll pm you. I’ve got all fingers crossed re the weather but circumstances dictated when I could go. I’ll pack a thick jumper :D

Can I add, in the spirit of Khulu… I’m 30 minutes from the Chunnel. If anyone of you chaps need a lay up prior to crossing to France you know who to ask :thumb2

Daft question, could there be snow still end March?

Usually snow on the higher hills for at least 11 months of the year. I'd guess that there will be days that the temperature is below 0 deg C so the roads will be salted, especially if there's a re-run of the beast from the East. But, March and April can give some of the clearest brightest days of the year.

If there is snow around, you shouldn't see any midges!

i think you are best to do it clockwise. that way if you get any sun:D it will be on your back for the tricky bits. others may have different opinions.
