The project in theory: to make my old R1100GS Invincible Invulnerable Invisible (well make it a bit cooler looking anyway)
THATS IF I CAN GET PICS TO LOAD!!
Step 1 invincible: to make it faster…. How can I do that without spending a fortune?
That bit’s easy; I change to the fastest colour… BLACK
Step 2 invulnerable: that’s easy too… thanks to Steptoe.
A gearbox that goes up and down the gears without jumping out of gear on the first sign of fast accelerating.
Step 3 invisible: Harder but still doable…
I turn it into stealth mode by changing the paint to stealth black paint (matt or satin I haven’t made my mind up yet) and the bike gets even faster.
Well that’s the theory, now all I have to do is put it into practise.
CHAPTER ONE..... THE TANK SAGA
The bike as it stands now.
A bit plain and slow as you can all see.
What to do first? Colour change. But I want to make it reversible if I don’t like the end result, so to that end I bought a tank and plastic bits to spray for this project.
I have a red plastic tank but the new tank is metal but it’s off an 1100 so in theory it should fit… we shall see.
FIRST STEP take the old plastics off
and compare the tanks
the plastic tank from the front
and the metal
From the top
The view of the fuel pump
Now lets see how the metal tank fits
First a pic of how the plastic tank fitted
And the metal
Not so good looking for the metal tank
I think it must need different silver plastics and rubber jointing strips
Well that means that it the plastic tank and it's other bits are going to get the spraying.
I still have to make my mind up on colour,
I'll take the bits to the guy who's doing the spraying so he can prepare them, and while i'm there i'll get him to make up a couple of test cards for the paint.
i hope i can make my mind up for a colour, any ideas? what should i do?
hopefully it will get sprayed in the next week.
chapter two next week hopefully
