I am looking for advice and knowledge about the island as I will be visiting in just over a week, apparently it will be nice and quiet with no other motorbikes on the roads :D

More seriously, what is the situation with green lanes? Do you have any? Or the rules the same as the UK?

I would love to tour the island and explore whilst I am over so any help on routes, be they green or black would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Mike

Mike,

Get yourself a copy of the os map for the Island & they're mostly marked on it. I have a map with them all marked on, but I'm only here until tomorrow morning otherwise you could pop around & copy it onto your own... They have lovely Greenaway signs with a motorbike & horse to show you the way.

As Paul says, marked on OS 1:50,000 like BOATS here and CLEARLY signed which is refreshing. Plenty to choose from and quite a few easy going for GS's - we did some last year two-up going right up into hills. Enjoy!

Where about in Preston are you Paul? It may be useful to quickly copy your map

On t'other side from you, in Penwortham... but we're setting off to Cornwall for the week in the early hours. Sorry.

Take your OS map with you & talk to any of the lads you see around who are on dirty trail bikes. They'll point you in the right direction & may let you mark up your map from theirs, if they have one. TBH, though, you can'r go wrong if you look for the symbols on the map. Have a great time at the TT - wish I was there :thumb

Sorry your not coming this year paul, :blast
I will be taking my maps there this year, so available for copying if required,,I would get the double scale map available at the ferry terminal, it has great detail for lanes etc,,
I will be at the St Hellier from friday.

I should be on my Bumblebee this year..

You'll find some great trails for big bikes just using the OS map as mentioned.

He does indeed have an XT. IIRC he overtook me around the outside at the Graham memorial on it - while taking video of the manouvre with his left hand!

Still, I suppose that's what happens when you're riding a 1200!:D

Cheers manxpanzer :beerjug:

A small group of us are camping at Union Mills so would be good to meet up, although I am not sure if the other lads would be up for off road.

I am riding a f650 dakar, so not too agile on the trials certainly not Glenmaye aka Edwina's Gulley capabiltiy with me on it  although the rock climb looks fine (From this thread on the topic : http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243390)

and also got some tracks loaded onto the sat nav of various trails undertaken last year by TRF group.

Manxpanzer,

Rest of us in the group are on bigger bikes (1200 GSA's) and we're on road tyres.

:augieok give us a bell when you get here, how long you over for?
will take you on some of the easier trails for the bigger bikes,
dont worry i'm running on trailwings too, so not that good in the mud
the rock climb on that thread is steeper than it looks,
And piebaps, it was round the outside if bungalow bridge onto the verandah

Total of 5 of us. 1 flying over, 4 on bikes (2x1200 GS's, 1x1200GSA, 1x650 Dakar). We get onto the Isle next Wednesday 08th around 12:15pm. Then 4 of us leave on Sunday 12th, and Mike on the 13th.

Hi Manxpazner

Didn't call you as my phone wasn't working and your PM is closed, however I met up with some off road lads and did explore a few lanes on Sunday - just got slightly wet!

The island was beautiful and the locals all friendly. Some great lanes and some where quite technical for me.

Once again thanks for your offer
