I would be really greatful as I would like to take it on Monday on my trip upto Scotland to meet with POG on his way back from the festivities in Skye and be able to use it on our tour round Scotland for the next week.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

you don't say, but you have got itunes on the pc?

other than that, maybe a different usb port on the pc. direct into motherboard usb socket is sometimes better than a hub IME.

sorry if i'm stating the obvious, but it's all i can think of at the moment :o

Hi
Have you tried downloading i tunes from their website ?
once you have done this you can run a diagnostic
Hope this helps

We've tried all the usb ports I have on the laptop. Sorry, yes we have downloaded the itunes programme and put on over 1000 songs and downloaded a video but we are unable to get the programme to reconise the IPod when we connect it. :blast

iPod

3 things to try:
1.Ring the Apple store, it's under warranty and they are usually very helpfull.
2. Reboot the iPod, if you look in the troubleshooting section it will tell you how. If my memory serves me right its the centre button and top arrow. Hold them both down at the same time for 5-10secs.
3. There is an ipod support section on the Apple site :

http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/

When you get it working you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Regards,

Mike

Is it a mac version of ipod that you got?

I think there is a difference between mac and pc compatible ones. Maybe that is why :nenau

Windows XP

Have you downloaded the latest updates and patches for Windows XP ? I know that Service Pack 2 fixed problems with recognising USB devices ?

Does the PC automaticaly recognise other devices when plugged into the USB socket ? Camera etc

They only become 'specific' once you have first connected them and the iPod has recognised a Mac or Windoze machine - AFAIK So unless it has been set up as a Mac one first it shouldnt make a difference. :nenau

The laptop seems to not reconise any of my plug in machines like my hub and its rather hit and miss with cameras more often than not it doesn't open and if it does it now opens it up in adobe for some reason :nenau

*****Health Warning*****
I am NOT a computer expert.

However, I had the USB issue once and it came down to something to do with the Device Manager and the fact that the drivers (?) weren't working properly. Microsoft's website provided the answer (eventually) and all is now well. It involved going into device manager and doing something after right-clicking on the USB lines (sorry, I did warn you!).

If it's the iPod or iTunes, I've always found Apple support to be excellent. Either email Apple or post on the bulletin board and someone somewhere will know the answer - just like this fine site.:thumb

I am no computer expert either, I have found and looked in Device Manager and it is empty. I've had a look on Microsoft and found some information that seems to suggest why its happening (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;893249#appliesto) but am unable to find the link to fixing the problem.:spitfire

Thank you to everone that has been pointing me in the right direction with suggestions. I've been trying them all as you've been suggestion them.

Thank you :thumb2

Anyone know why in the past when I downloaded tunes from Limewire they used to appear in a playlist on itunes and work fine however I have done something and I no longer have a lime wire playlist and I have to manually drag and drop them over to itunes library.

If I tunes is set as your default media player, you should be able to click on the song in the limewire folder and it should transfer to I tunes library :thumb2

You may want to try running www.windowsupdate.com as that will update your drivers if new ones are available though it's best done on a broadband connection and not a dial up !

Thats the trouble for some reason the Limewire folder has disappeared.

It could be that the device may have not been recognised first time round, have a look in Device Manager (Control Panel then System then Hardware) to see if there are any unknown devices - they usually have a yellow question mark.

If you have any you could try uninstalling them and restarting then plugging it back in - might work ???
