Hi
Having been over to Northern Ireland and bought an 08 reg 1200 adv off a very nice gser guy i am now confused. i thought i could bring it over to uk main land and ride it on its irish plate.
But alas i have recieved a nice letter sayin i have to register it here!
Has anyone had any experience of this as i am unsure if i have to cough up fee to re_ register and end up with new plate!!
Cheers

Have you tried Google? It's a wonderful tool.

Here's an example:

re-registering a Northern Ireland vehicle

bought me to:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motorin...icle/ImportingAndExportingAVehicle/DG_4022583

I suspect (though I may be wrong) the rules will be the same for 1200GS BuMW motorcycles.

Who does the nice letter come from and does it give a reason for the request to re-register?

Are you sure the very nice chap has not sold you a bike with Southern Irish plates? :aidan Did he ask for money in CD cases?

If the bike is on N Ireland plates then you don't need to re-register. :)

From Wapping's link the following applies;

Vehicles moving between GB and Northern Ireland (NI)

Vehicles registered in NI that move to GB are no longer classed as being imported to GB. Also, vehicles registered in GB moving to NI are no longer classed as being imported to NI.

These vehicles can keep their GB or NI plates and tax disc, or they can request the registration plate to where they are going, GB or NI.

The vehicle registration certificate Northern Ireland (V5CNI) should be used to aid registration in GB and applications should be made at a DVLA local office.

It can seem confusing at first.

I phoned the DVLA and got them to talk me through the process when I brought a bike in from the Isle of Man. They were dead helpful and it's actually dead easy to sort :thumb2
