Irl to USA for trip .. how hard can it be ??

Update ... on the assumption that I am not boring you.

Ideas of pre arrival purchase aborted .... have just wasted two days trying to buy a 2003 Kawasaki Concours (GTR 1000 to us lot) for $3000 via Craigslist . only to be told (10 emails later etc etc).... I must be a scammer ............. who would agree to buy a bike unseen ? etc .........

........... ye Gods , do the frigging Americans trust anyone ???? .. Ever .................... . ??

Very pissed off I am

So it'll wait till I get there

Have a nice day :beerjug:

I'm not bored. I'm interested in doing a ride across/up/down North America at some point and it's been a delight to see someone else doing all the hard work and still ending up no better off than when you started.
That's usually me that is.

.. Oh I am a LOT better off than when I started !!

Knowledge of the licencing system
Rapidly filling spread sheet of used prices (my own guide)
Knowledge of how to use KBB for Book values in USA
Insight into the American head ... no comment !!
etc etc

Have a nice day :barf

All good points well made. :thumb2

And......all of your hard work has allowed me to rule this out as a future option when the time comes to do the trip.
So you've also gained yourself a  next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

Looks like a win/win after all. :clap

Never say never ............... bike bought , and deposit paid (and delivery to the door (in USA) organised !!)

1994 BMW K1100LT 32K miles ...... new tyres , well serviced , should do the job nicely !!
At just under $3,500 , it's a bit dear compared to over here ... but that's what it is. (I ended up paying $50 more than the next higest bidder , so that's the market !!)

so ...... anyone who would like to follow me is more than welcome , K1100LT for sale , pick up date Friday 7th June 2013 somewhere near Charlotte Airport, Price circa $3200 ... and it will be well proven , and probably still warm ! Pls form an orderly queue.......... even at zero resale , it's still half the price of a hire deal for a month .

have a nice day (need to practice ) :beerjug:
and current owner will sell for me after ... so real people do exist !!

Good job. It's only slightly more than I paid for a very second-hand Goldwing for 4 weeks. And you'll still have a bike to sell afterwards :thumb

Very enterprising. Well done.
Now what if it sold afterwards for more than the purchase price ;). Could you imagine the trend you would have started.

All is possible since like here, weather and market "should" have got better ... but will not hold breath on that one !!

I'll probably stick it on ebay at stg price of $1999 with no reserve , and take what I get ............ happily

... on assumption of course that nobody from here wants to tour USA !!

Update ....... D day nearly here , fly out on Thur morning :D

Sad that no one has taken up my offer of a follow on trip , when I get there and have checked the bike over , I'll probably post a for sale notice for it ... but a month's notice probably won't be enough , for some one to get a goodish price on a flight +++

who knows ????

Send me an email at EaracheMS @ Gmail.com and I'll get back to you with my contact info. Be happy to buy ya a beer or two if you get into Indianapolis and I might be able to meet up with you for a day of riding.

Eric

Tried ,
Email is coming up as invalid in my system ?? :beerjug:

Now in the States , 30c temp here and no rain yet !
Bike delivered on Sat morning past , all good apart from a new rear tyre fitted the wrong way round....... even had a full tank of fuel and a toolkit with extra tools !!

Got insurance for $171 last night (for a year) , hopefully will get licenced today (I could drive for 30 days with no plates , but ....) and then am good to go. Will do a few 100 + mile trips from here first to get confidence in bike , then off

Happy days , fuel approx $3.30 per US gallon......... hmm......

I'll be at Deal's Gap over the weekend and then on to Helen, GA for Sunday and Monday nights. Then up to Boone, NC.

Give me a call if you'll be in the area.

Have fun!:thumb

Will do , I have your telephone number in stock now. Suspect I'll not leave Irmo till this Monday coming .

Now properly on the road. No idea yet how to post photies from Galaxy pad thing !!
Went from 500 ft to just over 6100 today , and tomorrow plan to ride the Dragon's Tail (Google it)

Have just posted a for sale notice ...... feels odd , 10 days after buying it!

Guess it will end up on ebay at a low starting price and no reserve !!

Sorry to report that it is still very warm and sunny here , with fuel at 55p / litre ........ hmm

Quick update , deposit taken for sale of bike to someone in NI , so that the story may continue ..... approx 2000 miles done so far , no issues to report , managed to squeeze 62.5 mpg out of it so far , and it has now been to Canada and Niagra falls !
Today was first day of wet riding since arriving , so can't complain :beerjug:

Nice One Alan

May One presume One has named the motorcycle and we can hear the continuation of

"The Journey of "XXXX" One Bike, Many Riders"

@ 60 plus to the gallon is that US gallons? as it will be even better with Imperial gallons ?
