Is it worth MOTing my GS??

Hi All,

I was going to get my 1100GS MOT'd to sell, but just found my lid at the back of my garage and found the local mouse/mice have ruined it.

To get it mot'd I would therefore have to a. buy a cheapo lid and b. get it insured (insurance expired last year). In total it will probably cost me £200+

So am I likely to get the £200 back? Would you buy a bike without an MOT? The bike is very low mileage and is pretty much immaculate, so any buyer would be able to see it would sail through an MOT.

No MOT, IMO something to hide, possibly.

Puts some doubt into a buyers mind, so they'll hammer the price down.

No. Clean the mouse poo out, cross your fingers and get it MoT'd.

In my opinion you could advertise the bike as is and see how you get on. I have bought bikes without mot in the UK to bring back to Ireland and have used on mot as a bargening tool. If you post details here with a price you might get an offer. JJH

Thanks for the welcome - I actually used to post on here 7 or 8 years ago, I think it was called gsclub back then??

Good guess - the mice certainly did use it as a public toilet, I did try and clean it out, but the smell stopped me putting my head in it.

After I've given it a good clean and polish I'll pay the £12 subscription and put it in the classified section - I don't want to push my luck and post the full details before I'm paid up. I've owned the bike 8 years and it is immaculate having only done 15K from new, so I'm sure it will get snapped up.

I'm with John in his first post ....no MOT on an otherwise good looking bike? It'd stink to me, and with no sensible seller allowing people out on their bike without cash in hand, TBH I'd walk away......especially hearing something like 'the mice have eaten my helmet so I couldn't take it for an MOT'....

Even if the bike is as good as you say the lack of an MOT will always put some folks off, even the logistics of collecting it will be more hassle.

Due to living abroad for a few years and having a baby I've not ridden the beast in 2 years. I guess the biggest danger is that once I've ridden it I'm not going to want to sell it!

I was actually going to sell her a few years back, but one ride and I decided against it!
