With a lot of effort just managed to squeeze my head into my missus's lid. It's about three sizes too small, but is definitely a better option than the mouse toilet.

no mot:eekall depends on who the buyer is,i,ve bought bikes in the past with no mot but i,ve got a good idea on what i,m looking at.but its a bargaining tool for the buyer and he,ll almost certainly try and knock you down more than its probably gonna cost you to mot it.

Mice in your crash helmet...

What are you man or mouse.

Put a plastic carrier bag on your head then put the crash helmet on over the top :thumb

don't forget

Put a plastic carrier bag on your head then put the crash helmet on over the top :thumb

to make sure it's a clear one, and poke a hole to breathe through:augie

If I wanted a low mileage 1100 then no MOT on a bike that has only done 15k miles wouldn't put me off at all.

Most the things that the MOT tester looks for can be spotted when viewing the bike yourself anyway, it's all visual checks apart from the brake test :nenau

Think about it logically :)

pay ya subs,
post a pic and price as it is,
and see what offers come from there,
you can always say no.

I’d buy a bike with no MOT for the right money – an MOT isn’t exactly rocket science and most buyers should be more than capable of working out whether the lights work and whether the brakes work.

If you really feel that it needs an MOT, it might be worth speaking to the local MOT place – I vaguely remember a situation some years ago where I rode to the MOT on the garages insurance. Can’t remember the exact details though. You must be able to borrow a lid from somewhere – if not, try a car boot sale.

Thanks for the welcome - I actually used to post on here 7 or 8 years ago, I think it was called gsclub back then??

Good guess - the mice certainly did use it as a public toilet, I did try and clean it out, but the smell stopped me putting my head in it.

Are you man or.....erm...... Anyhow, clean the helmet up as best you can, spray it round with helmet cleaner (or dettol if several generations of mice have called it home) buy one of those thin hat thingies to wear inside your helmet, grit your teeth, put helmet on and get it MOT'd.

Come home, shave your head and soak it for 10 minutes in a bucket of bleach. :yikes

This idea sounds too simple and obvious so its probably no use.

Can you not get a mate who has a helmet and insurance that would cover him to ride it to the mot test to take it there for you?

With regards to getting a mate to ride your bike on their own insurance ir yours has lapsed.
DO NOT do it the law changed 5 or 6 years ago so that you can only ride/drive someone elses vehicle on your own insurance IF there is a certificate of insurance in force for that vehicle already.
If there is not the person riding/driving the vehicle IS NOT insured even if they have a certificate of insurance allowing them to ride/drive other vehicles.
Both them and the owner will be done for no insurance and the vehicle will end up being siezed at the roadside and uplifted.
The chances of them being stopped is high as the vehicle will have an ANPR marker on it for no insurance.
If you do not believe me check the small print on your insurance ,it is in there somewhere.

as windychuffer says, stuff it in a van, trailer, etc, someone must av one,,,,

Problem solved......

With a bit of pain and effort I can just about squeeze my head into my missus's lid - although it is 3 sizes too small.

Also found out you can cancel insurance within 14 days and get your money back less £25 admin fee.

I agree with the comments ref the mot - most of the time the tester just kicks the tyres and says nice bike while he writes out the ticket - usually over within 5 minutes. That's why I had wondered if a buyer was actually that bothered whether it had one or not.

Hi

The bike sailed through the MOT and is now posted in the for sale section if anyone is still interested
