Is the GSA That Clever !

My GSA 2010 is coming up for its 10-12,000 mile service, so it tells me !

Anyway, before the notification came on the dash I was getting 48 - 50 mpg all the time. Since the notification has come on I am only getting 44 mpg !!!! My riding and routes havent changed , can the bike be that clever and make me get the service done asap to get the mpg back to normal ????

Its not THAT much colder - not yet anyway. Are we saying that BMWs are overcooled in the winter? My carb fed 2 valve air cooled 1997 Diversion 900 does much the same mpg whatever the weather.

More likely the ECU has thrown a paddy & gone into default mode until it gets a service.

My car has dropped about 5mpg,don't know about the bike but it has been 1 bellow a few mornings so it's not exactly warm out there. It's not that it's over cooled just it takes a fair bit longer to get up to temp. Colder longer = more fuel enrichment for longer.

Maybe the plugs need changing, the air filter is dirty and the brakes are a bit sticky?? (try giving it a service!).

My service indicator came on 2 months ago and the mpg hasnt changed on mine, still 50.4mpg. I had to make a choice, service the GS or put a new cambelt on my car ( which is well overdue).

Is it physically using any more fuel or is it just the reading has dropped?

Hiya Duncan,
FWIW, as soon as the cold weather started and on full choke my old mondeo used to get down to 7-8 mpg, drastically affecting the overall fuel consumption.

But my GSA does tell me when it needs a service, it starts popping and farting on the over run, , I had it serviced by independent Motoscot, and it flies, but not in such an aurally entertaining manner.

You'll always get a drop in MPG if you leave the air-con on!
