Airhead prices have been high for years and don't look like coming down. Recently, there seems to have been a recognition of the quality of oilheads, and prices - or at least asking prices - have been strong, possibly higher that they were a couple of years ago.

eBay shows plenty of mid noughties and more recent hexheads, some apparently well looked after and with sub 50,000 miles, for £3k or even less.

Is this the new sweet spot for a used GS?
 
I think i paid £3.5k for my 2006 hexhead

And then spent probably another 1K putting it right

Rear drive, tyres, headlight, TPS, oil & filter, service , fitting missing oem parts etc

It's not quite the season start yet, i rekon they will push to 4k closer to July/ Aug and then tail off

I remember my first 2004 GS being labelled by many when brand new as a pile of plastic that won’t last five minutes. It was a great bike spoilt only by ServoABS.

My 2008 Hexhead GSA was a tough bike that is still going strong somewhere under a new keeper.

I’d happily own another, don’t tempt me. If I had the garage space I would snap one up.

I struggled to sell my 2010 GS with 55k miles on it in 2017. I eventually got £3575...I reckon in todays climate I'd probably get £4- £5k..if I still had it. Lot of bike for the money
 
I’ve owned a few over the years and always thought they have held their values well, like another said, last couple have needed work but haven’t ever lost money on them. As long as mechanically sound then cosmetics can be done to what you like.
 
I actually think prices will continue to fall. Dealers can supply new bikes off the floors with virtually no waiting time and the PX prices are falling all the time.
It has to have a knock on effect to older bikes.

I struggled to sell that mint TwinCam 12 GS from Oct & then Jan to March
FSH, new battery and new tyres, no corrosion and loads of tasty extras plus full Vario luggage
Started off last autumn at £6250
Dropped it in a new advert to £5500 if IIRC and then went to a Honda main dealer in p/ex at £4500, in March
They took 2 months to sell it at between £5600-£5900
Nowt wrong with the bike and totally mint

I saw an ad on Facebook an hour ago from Bahnstormer Motorrad.

Brand new 1250GSA

£189 a month.

In what way is that a sensible long term sales plan, selling new bikes that “affordably” with the inevitable consequences down the line. The world is now full of low mileage part-bought bikes that have to be moved on, somehow ??

Did the seller actually want to sell it ??

One price one minute, then it was another , accessories, then no accessories, wanted a holding deposit - a buyer on the way, etc etc

I gave up in the end!
 
However the thing we’re missing here is the amount of owners of the newer bikes who’ve sold them and returned to the hex and twin cams.

In future these bikes buck the trend and go up in price when people realise just how good they were.

As long as you’re not in a hurry to sell then the right buyer will come along. Hold out and you will get what you want.

My last early twin cam went for £6k, took a while to shift but it went eventually, it’s just finding the buyer that wants a well cared for example.
 
However the thing we’re missing here is the amount of owners of the newer bikes who’ve sold them and returned to the hex and twin cams.

In future these bikes buck the trend and go up in price when people realise just how good they were.
I was tempted to do exactly that after my fourth stranding event with a hot 1250 that wouldn’t restart.

It’s all good now, but I’ve still had some unnerving warning messages about “key not detected and can’t restart if stopped” etc. I have a brand new Varta battery in my key fob, I think my iPhone might spoil the key signal when put in my tankbag with my ignition key?

I washed the bike yesterday with a hosepipe (no power washing) and it then came up with a spring strut fault warning saying go to dealer…... I’m sick of all this techno bollocks that just makes life difficult….. Thankfully the fault is no longer present. My GS911 shows a pile of faults, I’m leaving them in memory for the mechanic when it gets serviced in late June.

I can see a benefit to owning a simple, reliable twin cam Hexhead that should clock 100k with just basic maintenance and replacement consumables.

I could have had it for £5k st the death, but it didn’t float my boat
