Is the hexhead the current used bargain?

Can you just as easily add sensors if you have a GS911 ?
I bought some ‘after market’ TPMS’s on eBay for around £15 for the pair. My friendly independent BMW mechanic fitted and coded them for me when I put a pair of tyres on the Hexhead the other week and they ‘woke up’ by the end of his road (400yds). Feeling quite smug…..as long as they keep working of course, but early signs are promising 👍

You can code new sensors with a gs911 if you already have them. But you also need an RCD tool to turn them on remotely so the bike can find them.

However, I'm not sure if you can use the 911 to retrofit them if you haven't had them before.

They can be added at a dealer. It's a programming process. It's not a difficult or time consuming. It takes about 30 mins once the sensors are in the wheels.

Personally I think RDC sensors are more troublesome and costly than they're worth.

The batteries only last 3-5 years too. And they cost £100 each to replace (plus labour).

Eric at ECM used a professional ‘911’’ tool in conjunction with a device that read the sensors when they were newly installed….didnt take long at all… thanks again Eric‼️👍

I managed to add one sensor (the other had a dead battery it seems) to my Hexhead.

My bike came without originally.
I had the alarm installed after I bought it used, alarm is also RDC.
Got a pair of extra rims with sensors on and was semi-successfull (it was added on the system, no data though) in adding one of the sensors via Motoscan.
I'm going to try again this month with new sensors.

Agree on they might be more faff than use.

funnily a good friend of mine getting back onto bikes after a 25 year break has just bought an 05 1200 GS with full panniers 40k miles but it looks like it has done 5k got from an indie for just under 4k!! a hell of alot of bike for the money.

And yes he is loving it

Hmmmm,
Early 1200.
Let’s assume it’s had the immobiliser antenna, and fuel pump relay and ign switch replaced already.
Corroded primary and secondary coils.
Weak fuel pump
Final drive
Propshaft
Gearbox issues
Clutch,,,, kerrching
Slave cylinder leaking
Seized brake calipers
Worn top yoke bearings
Seized/ notchy telelever ball joint.
Perished swingarm boots.
Leaking balance shaft seal,
Abs servo failure
Seized alternator
Oil leaks from front cover, oil cooler pipes due to corrosion.
Shock absorbers failing.
That’s pretty much the normal stuff off the top of my head.

🤔🙃😳
I knew I had missed a few things

Early 1200 - no thanks !
Late Twin-cam - difficult to fault but yes the price I paid for my 2012 Rallye last year feels a bit high looking at todays prices.

Yes, however it’s a Rallye is it not and in exceptional condition. Think demand for these will remain the same for many years especially a later special edition.

I got mine at a fair price last year but I’ve spent a small fortune (don’t tell the misses) but they are lovely bikes and makes us happy.

Don’t think any of us will loose what new cars are. Could be worse could be an EV 😃

Woohoo, I've a lot to look forward to!

Hi Mark
Yes the Rallye is pretty tidy & 20k miles - hope my Audi is still ok ?
Reminds me of a neighbour here who bought a new Tesla Y in 2022 - must be the ugliest thing on the road. Oh, and he's only done about 10,000 miles and lost more than half its value already. Needs new front tyres every 5K too.

Ha ha, yes indeed. I have a few pals that have lost quite a lot on them. I have a 530e and its down a few quid but it didnt cost the earth to start with.

Audi is great, still going strong and other half loves it so thats the main thing.

1150 is the biking bargain right now!

3-3,500 for a decent 1150GSA, £66 on a John Gemi chip and your away.

It may have miles on it, but it’ll just keep plodding on. The chip makes them soooo much better and I doubt anyone really needs any more than what the 1150 motor puts out.

I have a 2008 R1200RT.

three fuel strip failures, oil leak from engine, and the abs motor has packed up. it's been a good bike for long trips but i'm not sure i would buy BMW again

Ive owned so far:

1 x 2009 R1200RT, 36k miles when i got it and apart from corrosion it was lovely after a map and ESA rebuilt by Denzo, covered around 6K on it with no issues loved the cruise control. No white finger

1 x 2010 59plate early R1200GS Twin Cam, 32K and the rear wheel bearing was gone. FD rebuilt and then the clutch slave cylinder went. Other than that did another 10k no issues, no white finger

1 x 2011 R1200GS, 7300 miles when i got it, basic version no abs or esa and was very vibey causing white finger, sorted with anti-vibe rox risers, starter switch failed within a week replaced under warranty. 8000 more miles with no issue other than vibration never got better.

1 x 2012 R1200GSA, 2350 miles when i got it and it was lovely not a thing was wrong in the 15k i covered absolutely lovely wish i hadn't sold it. No white finger

Currently have a 2011 R1200GS, 30k and its had the clutch changed and ESA rebuilt lots spent on it by previous owner, was used commuting in and out of London hence clutch. Corrosion on this but been tidying over winter and its like new to ride. No white finger but longest rides been around 70mile so far.

Also had a K1600GT lovely bike no issues.

I think they are great machines, the late single cams are great but i love the twin cams, just wish i could stop my urge to change them..

Bollocks! I've got a 09 GS with TPMS and 15 years later with 85k they're still fine. Do a search on here and you'll find loads of people that have replaced the sensors for far less.
Mind I would just delete the system if they pack up as I really don't see the point of it.

That’s impressive, 15yrs and that mileage is crazy.

Aye, I changed the last bike with cheap ones off Ali express. Goodness knows how long they would last but were like £30 including the wake up tool.

My 2011 bike has no note in history of changing which I would think is correct. They still work.

Lithium CR2032 batteries can go flat but leave them a few days and the chemistry will mean they will come back to life.
