Is the LC cooling system pressurised ?

You are obviously a total idiot - the manual says top up via the expansion tank cap - have you read the manual? I repeat there are no warnings in the manual - as usual someone with a little knowledge and even less intelligence trying to shout down others because they assume they know best -try reading the manual, muppet!

I have read comments slagging you off for your stupid comments many times previously - Are you now admitting that there is a radiator cap? (yes the silver twisty thingy) Its quite simple if the system has been interfered with / is leaking / is air locked - the non existent (according to you) will have to be removed (COLD) to top up the system. It will not pull via the expansion tank. expansion tank does as its name suggests - allows for expansion / contraction only & yes it should be kept between marks now do us all a favour - stop pretending to know what you are bullshitting about & change your tag - I am an Engineer & you are embarrassing me & my colleagues by calling yourself one!

Gentleman, gentleman ..... First we need to ascertain one thing -

Does the bike have a Hilltop remap?

:)
Mr MacKnob needs to go back and read every word of post #12 before he sounds off any more - there are no warnings about removing expansion tank caps in the manual - the radiator cap is not mentioned at all and any servicing beyond topping up is to be referred to a qualified BMW service person.

Ah - so there is a radiator cap now - you really are up your own arse! PRICK

No professional engineer would never lower themselves to the type of abuse that you do - such behaviour could get you chucked out of your institution, if you have one - so calm done chummy :)

Hmm you could be wrong, I currently run waterless coolant and that doesn't pressurize as its boiling point is 180, and I assume the lc is running waterless coolant as such shouldn't pressurize.
I would still wait until it cools,,, as the coolant has to absorb heat to be effective , and therefore will expand and cause pressure, the coolant is often manufacturer specific and can cause issues if mixing types and brands, so the space shuttle stuff might be overkill,
the expansion tank losing a bit on tip over doesn't cause an air lock , it just sucks coolant back in to the radiator through a valve in the rad cap when cold which does exist on a lc and is an extended maintenance measure ,
I am not an engineer, but i have been repairing vehicles for over 40 years and can actually read and write, much to the surprise of the bods with the latest expensive cars who kindly refrain from fixing their car, and take the trouble to be late for work to advise me how to do it,,
Roamer,

Roamer,
+1 first sensible answer and no mention of hilltop lol (which if you were on one the water or coolant would flow faster as its higher in the atmosphere haha BTW the water pump has something to do with circulating and pressurising the coolant wether its waterless or not.....

There's probably a warning on the cap.
Please don't remove radiator pressure caps when the system is hot, the release of pressure can cause the coolant to expand suddenly and may cause extensive burns.
Mods should remove any post that suggests otherwise.

I agree, but they should also say read the manual!

Just wind your neck in before your idiotic pedantic comments get someone hurt!!!

Nonsense - you really didn't read my posts before you jumped to conclusions, really very, very unprofessional. Where did I once say that it was ok to remove a radiator cap (either hot or cold)?

Can I add something here? Hot system don't remove RAD CAP it's ok to open Expansion tank lid. Foreget diferent types of coolant. JJH

Indeed, the manual has no warnings about radiator caps or hot or cold engines, in fact it doesn't even mention them, the top up is made to the expansion tank (reservoir) any persistent over temperature should be dealt with by the dealer - maybe the repair manual has something to say about radiators caps and warnings?

I'm a professional engineer and regularly lower myself......

Yes it does, it isn't pressurised at room temp so was able to check that the radiator was full by taking it off

And here we have the tosser technical section
