So what is wrong with that?

I find a good old needle on a scale easy and instinctive to read at a glance, so I can keep my eyes on the road

Not a problem seeing the needle at a glance, but for some of us knowing what tiny number the needle is actually pointing at is a different matter, especially on the even less clear inner km/h scale, when riding in Europe. With all the speed traps around these days that can sometimes be quite important!

Most of the TFT is taken up with that “awesome” RPM display.............. which absolutely no-one other than people who are admiring their acquisition - ACTUALLY look at on the road.

If you truly believe that a prominent (and flashy) RPM indicator is relevant to riding - then you should have bought a train set.

I agree - its an egregious waste of screen space when so much more information could be displayed simultaneously with a smaller rev counter, instead of having to cycle through the choices to find the information you want. For example - I don't want the tyre pressure readout to be an either/or with many other bits of info - I would like it permanently displayed, same with the odometer. Maybe there is a way to do this, but having only spent a few minutes playing with the display and reading the manual, I haven't yet found it.

Absolutely. Eyes soon learn the needle position of the different speed limits. Do you look at a rev-counter when you are cracking on? Don't think so. Your eyes are on the road. If you're really giving it stick there's a rev limiter going to cut in and tell you to change up.

Good point as I do have a screen protector fitted.

Only happened a couple of times last October riding with the very low sun right behind me. Never a problem in Spain and Portugal in the Summer.

Good choice IMO, but as always it's down to personal preference. As per my original post I paid the extra for mine and was glad I did as (for me) the speed is so much easier to read which was the main reason I chose it.
