is there a high seat option for the '12 GSA

Profile may be ever so slightly different but from experince on a 2006 GSA the actual ht is the same.
Had a secondhand 1200GS high seat which I bought to have rebult and so was able to compare this to the standard 2006 GSA seat. Overall ht was the same.

Have used the rebuilt seat on all my GS's since which is a little taller than the GSA seat but does not slope down towards the front like both the standard GS and GSA seats and is much more comfortable :thumb

Thanks for the clarification. I must admit I'm surprised how many have had issues with the seat 'pushing' them forward as I've not had an issue with this at all :nenau

That's the problem every bike manufacturer has - we are all different :D:D

Think I am slowly loosing the will to live but are you actually measuring something on a real bike with real seats i.e. a stock GS high seat and a stock GSA seat - cos that's what I did back in 2006 :comfort

I'm not usually this Anal....honest.:blast, it must be the '1200 section' making me do it.:eek

Yes, i have a standard GS seat, a Low GS seat and a standard GSA seat.
I measured the seat to peg heights..:toungincheek

i'm gunna go and ride the thing now...:augie

AHH - but you do not have a 1200GS high seat which is what we are comparing to the GSA seat :blast:blast

Here's the specs from the GS accessories brochure..

Seat height, unladen 840 mm/860 mm (high seat 880 mm/900 mm, low seat 820 mm)
Rider step length, unladen: 1,860 mm/1,900 mm (high seat 1,940 mm/1,980 mm, low seat 1,820)

A - circa 40mm
B - circa 60mm
C - no idea

Now tell him to go back and get a standard GS instead :comfort

PS - don't do inches anymore :P

Also if the dealer is any good they will have standard and low seats he can try before leaving the showroom.

Thanks mate very helpful.

Do BMW make a high seat for the '12 GSA or are you solely to use the height adjustment of the standard seat ?

With some DIY you can raise the seat. I'm 6'4", have the GSA seat on the GS on 30mm spacers.
However, since you have the GSA why not lower the pegs instead?

AHH - but you do not have a 1200GS high seat which is what we are comparing to the GSA seat :blast:blast

I think this is where I mis interpreted the seats available, it must have been a GS option rather than a GSA option

And AFAIK the "high" GS Option was only on the earlier bikes - I'm sure it disappeared from the catalogue.

Part numbers:

52 53 768 11 39
52 53 770 80 10

I'm also tall and I think the perfect riding position for my legs on the GSA 12 needs an extra inch or a little more between the standard seat in its top position (i.e. seat and passenger pad level) - saw lowered pegs that claimed to do this without losing ground clearance.

Alistair.

Sorry to have got confused but is this a comparison between the GS High seat and the GSA seat?

Thanks from a 6ft 6in person..

No, these measurements are taken from the standard GS - GSA seats, set on the low position.
I can measure them in the high position if needed.

I think the comparison wanted is between the GSA seat in High position and the GS high seat set in high position, not the GS standard seat set in high position :thumb2

FYI as I understand it there is only one GSA seat, but 3 S ones ie low, standard and high (at least these were the options when I had my GS)

Grateful for all the help here!

What I don't know is whether the GSA seat will give me any incraese when compared to my standard GS seat. According to the above the difference is 0.5in.

Is it that the High GS seat is the same as the GSA seat?

I have fitted Fastway pegs that have the advantage of dropping and moving back so accomodating the levers better. They also don't stick out more.

Not measured them all myself but how the dealer explained it to me many years ago is that the GSA seat is higher than the standard GS one, and due to the profile is a touch higher the high GS one even though technically they measure the same height. However, by the look of some replies on here some folk don't necessarily agree with this :nenau

I'm looking at two seats right in front of me
1) brand new never used GS seat of my 2010 GS pn 5253 766 7725 (stamped in belly pan)
2) old high seat I've used sofar: 5253 766 7720 ( i guess purchased in 2006)

The latter one is more flat, and about 20mm higher in the middle

I can't seem to tie in the part nos with what is shown on realoem:

High GS = 5253 768 1139

Std GS = 5253 768 0637

My 2007 bike has the std seat and has the part no that you have quoted!

All very confusing - I think I'll go for the £££
Touratech high sports seat!
