Google is good for quick a-b but a proper route planning app is what you need.
 
Google Maps gives the coordinates of a location if you use the Share button. You can then copy the coordinates and input them into the Connected app.
Apparently anyway, this is what I found online as I don't have the Connected app anymore.

I have basecamp but gave up planning routes a long time ago. I do a lot of european trips and just head in the direction that takes my fancy. In an evening or during a coffee stop though its easier to search around on Google maps for places of interest and mark them.
