Yes looks like an early version of the stand. The later ones has looped clamps to mount the springs from as they were a little stronger and not so prone to breaking off.

They are all that shape to a lesser or greater extent. Notice the slight difference in the mounts on my ST stand. Not the best picture.

Thanks, I was dubious of it as it's very thin steel and flexes where is bends back on it's self when in use, the feet are at different angles to each other making it even more unstable.

Worth trying to repair properly rather then just doing a quick fix.

For sure, they are getting harder to find these days. Repair maybe your only option, however they do crop up now and again.

They are quite thin, I ended up reinforcing mine with some 12mm x 3mm strip. Also the mounting holes on both the stand and the frame were worn making it unstable, and the 'ears' above the mounting holes that guage the angle it is when down were worn, so the stand leaned to far forward making it an effort to get the bike off the stand!

The stand looks like the one on my 81 G/S

It was a pain to lift on the stand and was very unstable because of the metal rotting away.

I had mine strengthened the same as Stewart Jenkins :thumby:

I bought a new one and threw my original away. It was back in 2003 and I didn't know any better.

Thanks for the ideas, I've wire brushed all the old paint off and only found the one hole which I have repaired, planning to make some U shaped bracing that sit underneath the feet, tho a mate of mine also had the day off today and suggested an essential ride out to try and find fish'n'chips on the Sussex coast as the sun was shining, 130 odd miles of fast roads and lanes, my longest trip on the G/S fantastic !

My original stand ended up rusting from the inside out, one arm collapsed and broke off!
On my rienforced stand I stripped all the paint and then used this corrosion remover https://www.bilthamber.com/corrosion-protection-and-rust-treatments/deox-c , easy to use and biodegradable, and can be reused once diluted. I've used it to clean the inside of steel tanks as well.
Good company with all sorts of products for restoration.
Stuart
