This picture is from the joint just behind the starboard side cylinder. Is it the dreaded oil leak. Will they fix it on warranty?

Yes that definitely looks very similar to mine - happened around 6,000 miles on my 05 1200GS.

apart from my FD that was replaced at 3000miles i seem to have a good-un.

yes thats it ,mine did 9400 on an 05 not having it done till i am told what's causing it (never been off road ) & not just to get my bike past the warranty period
Did a test on the gearbox when it was hot & it is not a pressure build up

As the gear box needs to come out to change the seal on the input shaft, ask them to change the output seal as whell.
