Is this the 'surge'......

Hi,
I've a 2002 R1150R, single spark, 20k miles, had it about 600 miles now.

Now I'm about to service it, and go through it, but before I look for something that's not there, some advice please...

When riding on a constant throttle, it will suddenly feel as if it's about to run out of fuel, then if I twist the throttle, open it, it comes back on song and goes well. Sometimes it's worse than others, bike seems to run well in every other respect.
Now is it the 'surge', does it just need a careful serivce?
I thought fuel system, filter, the U pipe or some such thing, blocked or split, but when I ask it for more fuel it clears itself, so it can't be that can it?

Any advice is welcome, I can ride around it, but I would like to cure/fix it! Anyone had anything similar?

Had my 1150 from new, March 2003 I believe it was the last of the single spark ones.. (33,000 miles)
I can only describe my " surge " as, only happens about 30 mph, yes does feel like it's running out of fuel. The bike runs great other than is, bit frustrating and people including myself spend a small fortune trying to cure it.. My advice would br too live with it....... Good luck.

Thanks for that. Mine seems worse at 60ish mph, not to bad at 30, but to be fair spend little time at those speeds as it's fairly rural here!

perhaps chipping it will help, fit it while you take the tank off

Do the valves, end float and spark plugs before worrying about anything else.

Are you running a standard exhaust? If not search cat code plug and try the different jumps. This will help with surging.

If that doesn't cure it check the throttle bodies are equal.

My single spark used to do the same thing...as said basics first especially throttle balance.

If that doesn't cure it look up: steptoe link.
