ive just read on a post that a bike can fail its MOT if there are no rear footpegs? is this right?

i hope not cos ive just taken mine off and flogged em!

no, its bollocks,
if fitted, you check for security, thats it
(i just checked for you in my mot manual)

Are you sure? They must be fitted and they must have an anti-slip surface (having just googled motorcycle mot testing requirements).

yes, im sure,,, in the book it says "if fitted" there is the single seat rule, but what constitutes a single seat??

how does a drz400e pass then?
ps a lot of online mot manuals are way outa date

you tell me, the s version has footrests so the seat is duel, the e model was a rider only bike from new, but its the same seat,

Then I'm even more confused about the MoT. If there is a pillion seat fitted the law requires footrests to be securely fitted with an anti-slip surface for pillions. The only thing it doesn't stipulate is which way the pillion should be facing (ie forwards or backwards). If no pillion seat is fitted then no requirement for rear footrests I would assume?

If you had a 1200GS just take the rear seat off. My old Ariel only has a single riders seat so it doesn't have rear footrests. Simples.

Mine doesn't have rear foot pegs and passed its MOT.

The examiner being a arse though did comment on them and told me if it has one seat (i.e. on GS remove rear seat) it doesn't need them. On the Adv which is a dual one piece seat just get him to classify the bike as "offroad" and it gets an exemption.

Then again I took it to another guy the year after who said the first examiner was speaking bollox and passed it anyway.

So 2 MOTs with no rear pegs and passed both times.
