Right guys here’s the situation I found myself in on Monday in Italy.

Been riding round Switzerland and Italy, last week on a two-week trip. The bike has been running like a dream no noises no new / strange vibration etc. The only thing the bike does every now and again when in a high gear and give it loads of throttle it pinks a little.

So I am now running down the toll road towards Monaco doing about 85 and give the bike a bit of throttle to past and get a bit of pinking. So I back off a little and realise that the bike isn’t pulling and notice I am loosing power.(No miss firing noting fuel gauge showing over half a tank, oil temp 5 bars which is normal) after a little bit of panic as I wasn’t sure if I could make it to a SOS lay-by, which I managed to nurse the bike to for about 2 km’s.
Went to change down and the bike just died.

Now in the lay-by try to re start the bike, engine turning over but nothing.
I then notice the fuel pump isn’t running now NO Oil temp and No fuel gauge. Blast… or word to that effect. Start thinking Hall Sensor has gone…

Anyway finally get recovered to a BM dealer and they say it’s the fuel pump will try and look at it this week…Mmm not good as I am heading home…so they look at the bike the next morning, turn the key on fuel pump running RID all okay…???? Now running on one cylinder…Now they say it’s valve….Now this is strange to me never had valve failure with no signal or noises…

So the bike is now being recovered back to the UK…

Do you think it could be valves….???

well if it pinked it could be weak, causing valve burn

Stopped

When did you last change the fuel filter?

I agree but I serviced the bike 23500, both plugs were burning a nice brownish biscuit colour, which didn't indicate to me it was to lean.

When did you last change the fuel filter?

When I serviced the bike just before I went.

What I don't understand is why there was No fuel pump or RID when it happened and then it workrd the next day...

Cheers for you replies.

Failure

I'd still go with the hall sensor or wiring to it, they dont always give the classic symptoms when knackered. Check the plug/connector for the for the fuel pump as well on right of bike under bodywork by the tank see if it's loose or corroded. Bike failed when hot as well and ran ok when cold, so the heat may be causing some problem not easily traceable in the workshop. Good luck!:( (maybe a coil stick as well causing the one cylinder problem) is it a twin or single spark?

compression check it, thats tell u if its the valves or not,

.
I can't remember, but is the RID extinguished when the kill switch is off?
Does sound like faulty wiring somewhere.

Right just got the bike back from Steve @ Motoscot...thanks Steve great job:thumb2

And this is the culprit thats caused all the fun and games...Lucky no damage to piston or bore the piece that broke off must of gone straight out..
