After travelling through France last year on my beloved Gsxr 1000 and covering some 3000+miles, the only problem was after getting home feeling what could be described as cramped, knackered and pretty damned uncomfortable. Ok these bikes are good for shortish distances but for serious mileage you've just got to have a GS. So after reading some good reports I bit the bullet and bought a new R1200GS TE. Never road one, never sat one and the last time I rode a naked was some 30 odd years ago.
The new bike gets delivered and I decide to go on my first test run, sat on it and thought what the hell have I bought here! Nearest feeling would probably be like sitting on a highland bull! Bars stuck out so much compared to what I was used to and sat on something that looked so big you think how the hell is this thing going to handle. After 5 miles totally and utterly blown away, handling will give any sports bike a run for its money around the twisties, torque is instantaneous with lots of it, comfort well watch you don't fall asleep, fuel consumption------easily 50+MPG if not hammered. Carries 2 up easily with lots of luggage and will do high speeds loaded.
I've got a new HP4 and a 2002 GSXR 1000 mileage on these bikes this year are very minimal for the simple reason I just cannot keep off this GS. Best buy I've done for years and can't wait for the big European tour with my mates next year when I'll be there well before and still waiting for them to arrive!
