Hi looking for some tech advice.
I have a r1250gs which has been playing up for a while and now will not start.
When I try to start it, it behaves like it's got a flat battery, there sounds like there is some movement from the starter then the screen goes blank and when it comes back on I get tip sensor fault and traction control error messages.
Bike has new battery as of yesterday and has been left on optimate overnight.
Any ideas.
Thanks

An Optimate is NOT a battery charger

they even call their cheapest one a battery charger as shown in the middle of the URL

I guess you will claim they maintain a battery not charge them but that is a semantic argument not based on any scientific definition

Some Optimates have programmes to recover sulphated or deep discharged batteries. Do these functions not count as charging?

Sounds like the starter button is working so the problem is further down the line. Have you checked the starter motor earthing? You can check this quite quickly with a jump lead from the negative terminal on the battery direct to the starter motor. If the earth is okay, then you need to check the solenoid and then the motor itself. A search of threads here should have info on this.

Thanks I'll see what I can find

Do 1250s suffer similar starter issues that the 1100/1150 did? loose or dislodged magnets etc. A faulty starter will draw load from the battery.

It should. But it's really the cranking voltage that matters.

Totally different starter motor design.
