Used the Quest for 1st time yesterday to Leeds and back!!

Outward just as a scrolling map, just to see what happened on the screen.
Interesting on new bits of A1M, which showed as a field!

Homeward bound - plotted a route and hey presto, it worked a treat, with only a minimum of 'off route recalculating'
Nice lady telling what to do, into the bargain

Can't understand all the fuss, why people get lost with GPS's....ie RTFM first!!

Hey Tarka...........these things could catch on!!!

Welcome to the future! And the future is paying for mapping upgrades I'll bet your on last years mapping, the M6 Toll was shown (mainly) but had the attributes of a track. Most amusing hearing and seeing Betty get all confused as she tried to rubber band you to the A5 or whatever and then recalculate from there.

Even if you don't use it for routing, at least if you know where you are you can look on a map to find where you want to go to. Beware the settings in route preferences (if it's the same as the 2610), in a car you want the "unpaved track" turned off in the car, but definitely on when on the bike.

Have fun, best way to learn is playing with it in the car while preferably someone else drives.

Should be dealt with in V8 of City Select which as a newly purchased unit you should be entitled to for free, hang off registering until it is on general release. You'll know about it cos it will be posted up here.

If you purchased a locked MapSource product ON or AFTER the release date of an update, you are entitled to an unlock on the newer version of that product for free.

I still haven`t powered mine up yet....

Here is a reply i got from Garmin just recently if that helps

Garmin will be releasing European City Select V.8.00 early in 2006. If you have registered your product already, you will receive another email from Garmin, informing you of the release of the V.8.00 update. If you are entitled to a free update to V.7.00 because you registered your European City Select version 6 after 30/11/04 it is VERY IMPORTANT that you let me know. I will then be able to send you a set of CDs.

If you registered your European City Select before the 30/11/05, then there will be a charge of $75 for the update to V.8.00. You will also notice that you will receive an update for the City Navigator instead of the City Select. This is due to Garmin discontinuing the City Select.

Well done Garmin, finally sorting out its mapping! :thumb

I suggest three things -

- Plot your routes on the PC before you leave home. In MapSource on the PC you can force the route onto nice roads only.

- Switch 'off route recalculating' to 'off'. Once and for all!

- Switch 'auto zooming' to 'off'. Once and for all!

Now you can use the navigator as a scrolling map with the route as a fat red line. Without having your nice route destroyed by a stupid 'recalculation' just because you decided to stop for an hamburger. :thumb

Yep one of them - Q1 is when, exactly when is crystal ball stuff and I've had 3 different dates/months from 3 seperate Garmin sources, as said above that link will give you an e-mail notifier.

Bought Mrs Judge a Garmin C320 for Chrimbo, we will hold off registering it, we will then get v8.0 city nav and I'll have it unlocked for my 2610 :thumb

Don't forget the "one touch" get you home function. Save your house waypoint and call it Home. Then whenever you press and hold the find key it will plot a route home. Great for those days when you go for a hack and then decide you've had enough and just want to home as quick as possible.

Nice feature :thumb
