Forry's and my weekend looked set to being boring but its amazing how one distress phone call can change all that.

Late saturday evening the phone rings and its a client of mine who is doing a mammoth horse ride from St Davids (S Wales) to home (N wales) and she says her horse is not going well can i come and see what i can do to help the horse continue the journey. It had already completed 100 miles:bowes and they were at a place just south of Rheadr. My thoughts got going and wondered if EmmsyPoo and RobbieC were up for a visit after the horsey job?????

Rang Emmsy and the reply was NO, not about because they were meeting up with Louisdut and Nicky for a bit of fun offroading. I could hear Rob shouting in the back ground "the trails are GSable".......sorted:thumb2:bounce1:bounce1

Loaded the GS with all my tools and off we set at 6am and arrived at horse job at 8am to a lovely cooked breakfast.....yum.

Then off to the horse to see if i could help. Unfortunately the horse couldnt continue but the client had a backup horse and with just one days riding missed, she could continue her journey.

So i trimmed another horse on the ride

and left them to get going whilst we headed off to the destination where we met the offroaders.

Are you part of the GSer discount scheme? If so would you travel to Kent? Wifeys horse seems to get through more shoes than Imelda Marcos.

We met up at 11.30 after the others had already been out and about but delayed by RobbieC with yet another puncture (sure he does it for the attention:nenau), drinks and nibbles and we head off.

Things were going well and the pace of the ride kept moving until stopped for fag break and rob and louisdut started whispering, glacing in our direction. Seen this sort of behaviour before when blokes start uping the tempo:eek. Yep, i was right, they annouced that the famous bombhole was next. Robbie went first and as he came uphill out of bombhole, did a wobble that got me thinking "if i did that on my GS i'd end up down the steep slope under bike with an added injury to the list" ( so far people have broken wrists, legs, collar bones and shoulders?!?). So I borrowed Nicky's CRM230 and rode it on that to see if i could do it on my gs. I decided Forry could ride it for me:surrender. Fag in mouth, no helmet and as cool as a cucumber Mr Superduper made it look like a walk in the park:bow
Then Emmsy's turn and does it like a pro

Nicky was the only sensible one to take the right path through this, I followed Forry and we both ended up with engine bars stuck in the ruts, that will teach me for trusting him:blast

Not quite sure what Rob intended to do with one of these if he caught it but luckily he didnt:nenau

So you see, life as a hoof trimmer is tough at times.

Excellent day, great company and thank you to RobbieC, EmmsyPoo, Nicky and Louisdut for making Forry and my weekend. :Duchess

Ps well done to Forry with the camera becuse he took most of the pics.

Ill travel anywhere as long as you pay fuel. (This is great when i have clients in France:thumb)
PM me if you want to know more about barefooting, most horses can do it given the time to ajust. The horse in this story had other issues that stopped it continueing.

Nice one TT, I'd happily give them trails a go but you have far more bottle than me working with horses like that. They scare me witless and you wouldn't get me in the same field with one. Obviously a skill you've worked a long time on.:bow

Hmmmm.......................Take your word for it. Not convinced mind:thumb Me and horses just don't seem to understand each other since one left me hanging onto the stable roof guttering after it sussed I was not the one in charge, and wandered back in. :blast

Very nice, Tina. :thumb2

Maybe Emmsy could post her account of the day here, too, and vice versa? ;)

Can't wait to join you all again soon! :bounce1

You've already added the link mi duck well done you!

And just to say we had a top day too, no hooves or 4am starts for us though - thank god, Im not a morning person apparently!

Very inspiring! :clap ..but the thought of getting my bike gear on in this current climate has me reaching for the fridge door to get a beer out.

I took a little bimble out to Moel Famau yesterday then came home to re-hydrate

I still 'ain't got the bottle (or desire) to take my GS off road, but it's always interesting to read about others who have.

:clap:clap

Perfect example of a great day out that was spur of the moment (was expecting to work Sunday). Thanks all for a great day out, as it was last minute didn't take my camera so no pics to add.

Louis

Nicky here: Great to see Tina, Forry, Rob & Emma again, really enjoyed the day. Thanks Tina for all the inspiration seeing you on that beast (the bike not Forry) will make me try harder.

Hope to see you all soon.

Nicky
