It's a crying shame ....

Here you go Giles, just to keep you going until next Friday :)

Taken this morning on my way to work - I just had to pull over for 5 mins and just look at her, admire her curves and then shoot off again and spank her!

A serious piece of offroad kit like that and it has slicks on it..:D

IIRC Bike magazine ran an article where they prefered it as the better road bike and if my dodgy memory works even better there was a scan of the article posted up somewhere in the KTM section?

From my own personal experiance I can assure you the R is not lacking in the handling department, not by a long chalk, I would describe the handling as exceptional and the only time you notice the 21" wheel is at high speed where there is the mearest hint of reluctance to initialy turn in (TBH you have to be looking for it, it's that slight), it really is not an issue. And as for the suspension, it just keeps getting better the more miles I get on her (and that's coming from a GS with Wilbers front and back).

As a complete package the bike really is something else, the more you ride it the more you come to appreciate that :)

Andres

So have you got your's yet Andres? PIX PLEASE !!!!

Edit - scrub that. I see you already have posted.

Glad to hear you are liking it :-)

It's a road bike Blue , with off road pretensions. ;)

30 - 40 mph on the straighter parts of a gravel track/road. :D :thumb

Indeed, 'twas bought for it's superior performance, engaging ride and that indefinable something called soul :P

Andres

Soul is so subjective and means different things to different people. But it does amuse me when you see certain people being dismissive of people because their definition of soul is different to theirs. And then you see the same people waxing lyrical about the 1190 and its performance, and how rubbish the 1200GS is (both hexhead and watercooled ones) and they own an R1150GS! :D

You reckon :D

I see Andres caught its best side to hide that monstrous dustbin. :D

I do like the look of the R though, looks good.
:thumb2

Gotta agree with you there, the standard can is hooooooge - soon to be replaced with a shorty Wings when funds allow :)

I'm impressed with that , thanks for the evidence! :D

Will you be racing that guy point to point when you get yours? ;)

Ha ... I wish. Like Andres ..... If I had a tenth of his talent .... :blast

Its a very good looking bike Andres...very good looking. In fact for the larger KTM's i would say that's by far the best colour scheme.

I've been feeling an urge for a while now to take a 950 out so will keep my eyes peeled locally and see what's about. Seat height will be the decider as to whether I even bother swinging a leg over.

I took 1190 Adv on test ride today and it is very good bike, but I don't think I'd be able to bear the heat coming from the engine! It is October and I was hot down there...I can only imagine how it is in Summer...especially in stationary traffic.

I loved the barking sound from standard can and power delivery. I'd miss cruise control and satnav wheel from my GS LC. When I pulled at dealers, warning light came on and message on dash was saying " EDS failure" - I do know now that it is KTM ESA that failed, guy assured me this is not common though...

When I swapped back to my GS and tried overtaking...I did miss that extra 30HP from KTM though!

I shall wait for S1000XR and take it on test ride, extra farkles BMs have on current bikes ( and I got used to them already) make me lean towards BMers, but you never know :)...ah the gearbox on KTM is superior compared to my GS!

After all the talk of the 1190 i to had to have a dabble and agree with the above, i had use of a loan bike today and i was also offered a great deal.

But the heat from the rads was immense !! I felt as tho i was sitting on it than in the bike as i prefer, the screen was shit and i even changed lids from a schuberth to a shoei and still a lot of noise, gearbox super smooth needs a quickshifter tho, felt very nimble like i was on a EXC, it steered much quicker than the gs, the engine fuelling was super smooth but i did feel it lacked a little low down but this was made up by the oh fook this is fast once on boil.

I did tell the dealer 2hr test ride is not enough and was offered the bike for a wk-end.

Awesome engine, but not for me, i do find the gs so easy to ride.

I would say Ding .... (and not in this boring competitive 'my bike is best' crap that people come out with .... :P), have another test ride in a few weeks.

I think first rides are always, well that really. An introduction and a familiarisation experience. It's not until the second or third test ride you start to understand a bike.

I remember my first test on a GS coming from jap stuff. I went back to the dealer within twenty minutes saying 'sorry, not for me .. ever .. ' :D I tried it again, and then again a few weeks later and eventually 'got' it ...

Also, there are many things that you can do to a bike to cure some annoying characteristic that's going to niggle you. So, again, in those second and third tests, it's working out 'how could I tweek this and change that' (heat shields under the seat etc).

Somethings aint so easy to change - like the GS's gear box .... :D

I think Giles is spot on.

Low down power/torque is higher than the WC it's just the engine spins up more easily so feels like it has less (fly wheel mass?)

Re the heat, that was a real big deal for me and nearly a deal breaker. Wings heat deflecting panels have cured pretty much 80% of it and it's no longer an issue.
