The marketing blurb

The sports tourer that the streets have been waiting
for. The S 1000 XR is as comfortable on longer journeys as
it is on sporty rides down winding roads. It uses the same
four-cylinder engine found in the S 1000 R and delivers a
powerful 160 hp (118 kW). ABS, ASC and two riding modes
(Rain and Road) all come as standard, while the Touring
and Dynamic packages are available as optional extras. And
if that’s not enough, choose from Pro riding modes with
ABS Pro HP Pro gear-shift assist, Dynamic-ESA electronic
suspension set-up, pannier mountings and more. The S
1000 XR: wherever you’re going, and whoever you’re going
with, turn every trip into an adventure.

The GS is dead. :augie

been thinking about a new bike and this is on the list. Trouble is unless it doesnt sell I dont think there is much chance of getting one this summer. BMW are releasing it too late in the year IMHO.

My dealer confirmed that XR launch will be on 20th June, and that my XR should be in UK week 27 (June 29th - 5th July).

You are a lot braver than me obviously. No way would I drop that kind of money on a bike I have never ridden.

I owned S1000RR, ridden S1000R couple of times, own R1200GS LC...so I'm pretty confident about the bike.

I had a week 26 date, I have give it up for a new GSA LC, a lot of money if your not sure about it, the gearing/mapping needs to be better than on the s1000r.

Whats wrong with the gearing/mapping? Mines as smooth as a baby's arse? Gearing spot on too... Miles better than my GS WC

I thought you got a Tracer? Or is that going?

Me neither. I've done first year models, and will wait this one out. Mind you, once I see one, or ride one, all that will go out the window.:P

Be strong, Nutty, be strong!:rob:D

I have Tracer as work horse, using as commuter, I haven't decided yet if I'm going to take XR delivery or leave it for later. I will for sure take it for spin on 20th and decide then. If I don't like it, I'll lose 200 quid from my deposit. Given demand for this bike I don't think dealer will have problem with giving it to someone else on the list...

I think it will be reliable enough, there is nothing really new in it. It's just a rearrangement of existing parts with tweeks and some different plastic. Course it's bmw so they could still get it wrong!
The timing is less than ideal though for me but we will see. One of my other options is a June-July delivery if ordered in the next couple of weeks. Test drive that in just over a weeks time.

If you don't get it, whatever you do, don't tell me where the order is, and who I need to contact to steal your order!:D

Nope, it'll be shite for the first year. 2016 will be the time to get one!:P

Longer gearing and more low down torque would be nice is what I mean, I was hitting the limiter too soon and very quickly when the power kicked in.

Nowt wrong with the fueling as that was cock on!

I know it's going to be sporty but a bit more usability from the engine would be great, not too high revving with fluff down below.

I can do better then that and save you £1000 on retail price !

I've got 3 contenders KTM 1290sa, already had the demo bike for the day, this bike is the business, new DVT multi that I'm due to demo and then the Xr in June, if I go with one of the other 2 I will be selling my Xr order with a health discount .
