Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
How do you do it. I want to move 10 gigabyte from my C drive to my external hard drive. Have tried already but cannot see the answer. Can reconfigure to external drive but not move....

Thanks

No Answer...

So I carry on blindly.

I now have 30GB on the external hard drive, and 10GB on my C drive.

It all works but can I easily move the files from C to external drive or do I need to reimport them....

Richie,

I wish that I could advise.......but I can't!!!

(I hate itunes files - they are a nightmare to export/import and I have had limited luck with them - I think, but not sure that there is a function on the ipod itself that you use to move files. Best do a search on google - OR, if you have the files saved as (more sensible) wma files, then you will have no problems.)

I did it a few years ago by drag and dropping the itunes folder icon onto the ext. hard drive icon....

It worked until I upgraded the itunes software version on the desktop, then it all went tits up......:nenau

Richie,
I have used "PQ DVD to iPod Video Suite" - google it and it should show up. You get a trial of 5 minutes of recording to see if you like it then it costs around $30 to register. Copies the DVD at a fast scan rate then you move it to your music fil and tell itunes to import it. I find it brilliant.
PQ DVD to iPod Video Suite (PQ DVD to iPod + iPod Video Converter) is a One-Click, All-In-One solution to convert DVD, Tivo, DivX, MPEG, WMV, AVI, RealMedia and many more to iPod Video. Super fast (300% faster than other solutions) DVD conversion speed with high quality plus advanced video editing features gives you everything you need to turn iPod into a portable media center. Watch iPod movies, TVs, home videos on the go - a new lifestyle to experience. )

I think the safest way to move the files would be to copy them onto the new drive before you remove them from your computers hard disk.
Just select the source music folder (C:\Documents and Settings\your profile\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music or whatever) in Win Explorer, select copy and then paste into the external drive.
You will also need to reconfigure iTunes in the preferences to point to the new location of the music folder. (Edit\preferences\advanced\iTunes Music location)
You may also want to back up the xml file which contains all the information about what songs are in the library, any ratings you have given them etc - as iTunes is not dynamic and has to be told what music is in the library and where it is located.

And.....

Can someone recommend a program so I can convert DVD to Ipod format

Thanks

windows or mac:

i've heard good things about Handbrake

mac:

i use the free prog iSquint for converting non dvd files to ipod format. certainly the best of it's kind that i've ever used. it's big brother, Digital Hub, does dvd conversion but you have to pay for it.

Due to the fact we have 4 Ipods in the family and all use the same Pc we don't keep files in the I Tunes library on the Pc, but we keep the Ipods backed up using something called Pod Utility. It works really well and every so often we just back up to the external drive and the great thing is we can all have our own backup and swop music from these into I tunes and then transfer. You have to setup the Ipod not to update the library. have a look on here, it is a free utility though we paid the £10 for extra function. http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/musicrescue/
Works great.
EDIT, think its called Music Rescue now.
