As above, I've come across a K1100RS at a decent price and with low miles. Any issues, I should be aware of? I assume it's got ABS2?

Yes, a bit of a behemoth to fair. You need to plan a lot on twisty roads. A good bike though, if you are comfortable with the weight in particular...

Love them!! K100RS was a bit easier handled, 1100RS is slightly more forward lean and higher pegs position but adaptable with risers and lower pegs, Harmin made a chip for them and they went like stink especially with the remus fitted

It should have ABS 2 as ABS 1 was phased out on K100RS and updated to ABS 2 mid production I "think"

In many ways it is better than the K1200RS as you can do everything without taking it to bits and you have only one radiator to worry about and not that monster alloy frame

There is something I remember about wheels and tyres but that may be the 1100LT They had an 18 front 17 rear I think

Anyway Superb Bike BUT don;t start them and run for 5 mins !! If it isn;t going out for a decent run ?? Just leave it or they just emulsify the oil with condensation build up after a few of those short idles !

Rubber pipework and fuel pump anti vibration mount can suffer badly if left with crap fuel in them The break up / dissolve But you should be able to see them if you remove the fuel cap assembly (4 screws ) Also look for water lying the lower corners !

@nicholsonj2252 was looking for one if you decide to give it a By Ball ???

if I had not just bought the GSA I might have gone for it myself

Pictures when ya have them ???

P.S. The gearbox uses the same set up as 1100 twins and can be prone to failures like the 1100 RS GS etc etc Skipping out of 3rd gear under load, Anton Largaider info

Bought a new one when they came out. Did 47000 miles in about 7 years before trading it against a K1200RS
Lovely engine
Smooth power delivery
Usual K series things of the time, like difficult clutch replacement etc
Personally I wish BMW had continued with the format, the engine was rumoured to be designed by BMW car division

@Posh Pete if you decide not to go for it let me know as I may well be interested

I have had a few of thes over the years plus a couple of K1100LT's

I put K1100RS wheels on my K1100LT .. made it a completely different bike, handling was so much better.

Loved my K1100RS, quiet, didn’t stand out but as fast as feck (mine was chipped ) so flew under the radar and didn’t attract attention ..
they cover ground fast and effortlessly , and are superb for riding looong distances in very very short times in the real world without attracting any attention, no pointless noise or brash image.

I still have a very low mileage K100RS 16valve.

Another thing… if the clutch feels stiff it’s likely to be the clutch cable arm on the back of the gearbox. Keep it lubricated other wise it seizes over time., I think the later ones had a grease nipple fitted on the arm.

Re The Ops post- I took a notion for something along these lines last year and got this in January. 52k miles on it with loads of accessories , luggage , spares and it just goes lovely. For 2k it’s cheap and reliable biking.

Nice bike Peter. (y)

I had a K1100 LT about twenty odd years ago.

It's place is cruising the highways and byways at a leisurely pace - loved the cassette player :D

The RS handles very differently though.

I was a strong chappie then - too heavy for me now. (y)

268kg wet. That's nearly my own weight heavier than the Himalayan! Hmmmm ...
Go try it !! The COG is the important thing!!

Its centreline of the crank above that just a petrol tank and a plastic airbox

In line with the crank is the battery and the ABS Module if fitted

Better explanation Crank is right side below your knee

Cams are left side below your knee

Auxiliary shaft is Centre of block and below crank height

Link to the K1200RS scary story !

Picture from Scary K1200RS story :D Its basically the same layout / Design

just a big alloy frame and twin rads over the K1100RS

It's one of the bikes I've always wanted after owning a K100RS and a high mileage K1100LT, thought they looked ace, but the LT weight almost broke my wrist in a garage drop and helped put my back out on numerous occasions when I was younger. A fair bit older now I'd be a bit wary of the weight, it sits high and can easily catch you out, like when dismounting!

Having said that definitely worth a go, they're cheap as chips currently :)

LT are much different how they "carry their weight" they have a lot of top hamper as my Grandad used to say

That Heavy fairing, plus the Screen system and electric motor all up up and then people tend to load a lot of crap in the pockets or they have that old radio/cassette system that weighed a ton

I still think in this instance @Posh Pete should have a run or at least sit on it and balance it between his thighs for a real world experience for "him personally" rather than a half dozen mixed forum personal experiences

plus if it's if you taken a notion and it's cheap - you can try it and if it doesnt suit, sell it on!

This particular bike is a fair distance away. If anyone knows of a K11RS nearer to Embra, can you let me know re trying it for size? Not a test ride, just a sit on and take off and put back on the stand as Jay suggests.
