A mate of mine has been offered a 97 1100GS for sale, its apparently a japanese import, anyone know of any differences apart from the kph speedo.

And how does your avarage japanese biker fit on a GS

Huh?

Japanese GS1100? I used to have one of those

Good if you are short. Probably been lowered already...or at least will have a low seat. Although I had met a few surprisingly tall Jpanese. So let's forget the stereotype.

If it is in good nick, no reason why it should not be a good purchase. The lights should be Ok. Since there they ride on the wrong side of the road like here. And the speedo is not an MOT issue...

But the Owner's Manual could be a problem...

Aye, but the Orientals write from right to left...:P

So does that mean the speedo will start at 150 and work down to 0

I got a Jap spec 94 GS, the speedo was KMH and it had no RID, So I got a UK speedo with RID from a breakers and it fitted straight on and all the wiring was in place for the RID to work.
apaert from that everything else seems to be the same.

Cheers Graham

Know what to look for now :thumb

I had a Jap import Baby Blade before the GS, if it's fresh from Japan check out bulb wattages all round. Headlamps are a very poor 15w dip beam standard.

No they don't!

Either from left to right same as us, or in most newspapers from top to bottom. Books, newspapers & magazines are mostly printed 'backwards' compared to ours though. You start at the back page and end up at the front.

Latest news mates just bought the jap import GS, reg on a P no RID but speedo has been changed for a MPH one. Unsure of the milage but its red non-ABS with panniers for £2800 :D
