Jumping out of gear?

As it's a GSA, a simpler "fix" may be to adjust the position of the gear pedal rubber - i.e. to lower it a bit so it contacts the top surface of your boot a bit earlier...

Thanks but the lever and rubber is positioned just fine, its the shaft that needs removing for cleaning.

Bendy toy, is it the bolt marked with the red arrow, or the central funny looking bolt with allen key head?

undo the bolt you have arrowed,remove gear lever,at the other end of the shaft unclip the round spring clip at the ball joint nearest the shaft,remove your shaft and clean shaft and frame bushings.
when you refit the gear lever there is a scribed line that alines with the gap in the back of the gear lever.

If I remember correctly, there is no need to unbolt the gear lever. Just unbolt the inner crank from splines at inner end of shaft.
If frame bushes are sloppy after cleaning, new ones are only a few £s from BMW

so if you dont unbolt the gear lever how do you slide the shaft out towards the middle of the bike,the inner part the ball joins onto doesnt come off.

Sorry I was working from memory thinking the bell crank was removable (never a good idea).

So, yes, remove the gear lever pinch bolt and unbolt the crank from the push rod at the other end. The shaft will slide out inwards.

i had this a few times early on with my 11 GSA.

unlike most bikes, when it jumps out of gear, this box doesn't go into a false neutral, but into another gear - very odd. it's like the shift mechanism is sprung. you can see this just by playing with the bike while parked.


my solution was to adjust the lever for best ergos for me personally, and make sure i was positive when changing up. never happened after that. it was nothing at all to do with a sticky shaft pivot, which i never touched.

When I had my 09gsa it used to do this , I cured it simply by being more positive on the up gear shift i noticed it only did it if I was "too light " on the shift lever

I refitted my gear lever a little too high which was initially a nuisance. But I've found that moving my foot forwards a little fills the gap and the shorter length of foot against the lever gives a better upshift.
