Just an observation, but……

It seems that quite a few just blindly renew their bike every few years before the warranty runs out even if they don’t really use the bike .
I think covid has curtailed some travels on here so perhaps that’s another reason some don’t want an £18k bike gathering dust .
Many seem to have bought a more simple and cheap fun bike for local pottering and discovered you don’t need an SOS button and a tv screen to have fun on two wheels…just witness all the £6k RE Interceptors and the like on the roads.
And discovering you don’t need a 250kg tech fest is quite liberating .

Spot on. I’m 72 next month and have hung up my touring gear as it was becoming to much to handle a 250kg bike. Downsized to a Street Triple, nice and light, all the power you need and being a naked bike it keeps my licence intact. Far more fun actually.

What was wrong with your 1200, apart from being 4 years older ?

First and foremost, it was a great bike and I was pretty sure it would be my last but it had several warranty claims over the 4 years and I was beginning to wonder if it was a Friday afternoon build. I also came into a lump of money earned in a short-term contract and am unlikely to have the opportunity of 'upgrading' again so decided to go for it.

Yes, got to agree with you there, you are spot on, :beerjug:

I have had 5 x 1200GS since 2005. My new 1250GS is notably better than all of the others in every way, other than the weight has slowly crept back up over the last 16years.

The 1250 engine is significantly better than my previous bike - a 2018 1200 Rallye TE - mostly down to being better fuelled, and the big increase in torque is most welcome when overtaking lines of cars :)

It is wasted if you only use at as a Sunday toy, but worth every penny if you use it regularly and do serious mileage.
