Just bought a 10 month old Rallye with 3000 miles on the clock. Second day of ownership. There is a strange vibration, almost a hesitant fueling or ignition issue creating a roughness in the engine. Did not notice this on short test before parting with money and handing my 2003 1150GS in px. I wanted a smoother, more responsive, more powerful and sophisticated GS. I have more power, love the way it handles and accelerates, but smoother it ain't

I tested a R1200GS and R1200RS at another dealer a couple of weeks ago. I did not notice this strange hesitant vibration then

I bike was given an annual service before I picked it up

Dear collective, I would appreciate any advice. Is this normal for an LC? What could be causing this? Is what I attempted to describe a typical fault/problem and can this be fixed

Thank you from a disappointed new LC owner

There must be something seriously wrong with it if you believe it's not as smooth as your old 1150

Call the dealer tomorrow :thumb2

As above. Get it back to dealer to be checked, should be smooth power pick up with no excessive vibration.

If it’s a 10 month old bike it’s under manufactures warranty so just take it to a BMW main dealer and politely ask them to fix it!

Don’t despair, these are terrific bikes and you will love once it’s fixed.

I would imagine the fault was caused by something done or not done on the service before you picked it up, the latest LC motors are very smooth and have really good fuelling.

Noticed with my 2018 model compared to the 2014 model that there is a a difference with the low speed fuelling probably due to its compliance with Euro 4 emissions, the bike feels slightly hesitant with slight surging on constant throttle at lower speeds .

In every other respect though the new bike is much better than the older bike

It’s simple innit ! Just take it back for inspection

FWIW, I'm on my second GS, the first had two engines, current is a EU 4 model. All three engines have exhibited a harsh vibration in 3rd gear, in the mid 30's mph range. This comes and goes at a constant , very low frequency around 1 Hz, almost like a chain that's got a bad tight spot. It isn't surging, IMHO. I reckon it's a harmonic frequency. Oh, and I think it's worse with a Pilot Road 4 on the front than the OEM Anakee 3.

Did I mention my current EU 4 bike also pinks? I tried a tankful of 97 RON yesterday and it pretty much stopped happening - unless I had my earplugs in better. That's fine, except I don't want to pay 10p/litre more for fuel when 95 RON is specified by BMW.

Is pinking a common trait on the new bikes?

Rode one and hated it so bought a GS hence why I'm in a GS forum

Horses for courses. This thread is not about you. The disappointed new LC owner asked for advice. You may not like the advice but it is advice never less.

I own an LC GSA......... a bit boring if I may add but good. Not brilliant or awesome, just good.

Disagree they are brilliant, but you can usually get a bigger rush on something faster but the GSA is the full package in my eyes.

The posters bike doesnt sound right, parking my 1150 n starting it up next to the 2014 i had it sounded rough as fook.

They must have missed something when it was serviced.
My GSA (2017) was serviced a couple of weeks ago and it is much smoother now than it was before. I don't know anything about what they do with a service but I know after my van had been serviced it was poor so took it straight back and it required an update apparently.
Since the update it hasn't missed a beat.
Not sure if they do the same for bikes but maybe a thought to ask your dealer.
Good luck with it :thumb I'm sure it will be fine.

It can be a whole list of issues. Throttle position sensor, dead spark plug, dirty air filter, throttle body drawing in air ie lean mixture one side not likely, lamda sensor playing up, valve clearance, old fuel (?), crank position sensor maybe not likely, clutch adjustment being a slipper clutch type thingy etc.
