I explained to Mrs S that this is 'asset diversification' and not a new toy. A completely original 1976 'A'. It's currently covered in ACF and other stuff but will shine up nicely over the winter.

As a man of a certain age, I always wanted one in my teens, it's been a bit of a wait... I was amazed at just how smooth it is to ride. What an engine.

Excellent :thumb2

I only got as far as a 380, but lusted after one of those. Thirsty as a thirsty thing, but the sound and smell - brilliant...

I only got as far as a GT380 as well..
Always loved the looks & burble of the 750's

" asset diversification " i like that

Enjoy..

Well Done !! I had one, wish I'd kept it. they don't stop or turn well but they are great !!

Nothing stopped or turned in them days ( all part if the fun ) :D :blast

Great bike sweet engine. I had a 72 in California did loads of miles, a grand tourer.
We didn't know what handling was in those days.

Im sure Im telling you to suck eggs, but as with all two strokes.
1) check all the fluids inc rad
2) use best two stroke you can afford, I used Castrol Racing 1.
3) dont be tempted following a few beers to start it up just to hear it, with them water cooled barrels on it will take ages to warm up and if its left part warm the mains will be left with petrol on which washes all the oil off the seals.

So in summary, fill it, oil it and then thrash the bollox off it, never mind diverse investment!

Its easy to balance the carbs and they tend to over oil the engine, I backed mine off until it had minimal smoke + top quality oil.
The crank seals go, easy to pull out the crank and send it to a specialist for splitting (needs to be pressed apart).

I also have a 76 , just in the process of a rebuild. As mentioned above, replaced crank seals. The U.K. Kettle club is a good group and lots of suppliers for these bikes . Enjoy your new old bike.

Thanks for the advice on how to keep it. As a Kettle virgin it's all appreciated.

Loving what you've done with yours Billd. Mine has previously had the frame powder-coated and I'm thinking of stripping it down over the winter to give it a proper clean and polish all over. I'm currently thinking I will keep the finish 'original' though.

I've done a few miles on it now and I can't stop smiling. Back-to-basics riding at its best. The lack of engine braking is alarming after the GSA.
