... after 16 years with an 1100 GS. Going off the recent threads on here I'm a bit out of date, but I'm wondering if there's anyone on here can still remember the 1150s, and could point out any things that need 'looking out for' or keeping an eye on.

I'm familiar with the final drive output bearing, as I had one go on the GS. I also seem to remember potential hassle from the clutch slave cylinder? Anything else I could do with being aware if?

By the way, it's a 2001 model, (with 15400 miles on it), pre all the twin spark/servo sillyness, so the ABS should be OK. (Never had a problem with that on the GS.)

I did test ride one for a couple of hours from Allan Jefferies back in 2002. I think it took a week for the grin to wear off....

I had a 2003 1150RT and did about 40,000 miles in all on it, finally retiring it at 78,000 miles, after using it for a daily 100 mile round trip commute. It was a brilliant bike overall, but quite tired by the end.

I had all the ABS problems, and there was no alternative but to bite the bullet and replace the ABS module, and I managed to find a second hand one from the excellent chaps at motorworks.
My throttle bodies became quite worn by the end in that the butterfly valves became loose and made a rattling noise and were hard to balance (said the chap who serviced my bike) and I replaced them (again - motorworks) which transformed the bike: much smoother running and crisper throttle response.

Otherwise, for me everything worked faultlessly and I just serviced the bike as per the schedule by an independent workshop.

Cheers for that. Yes, I remember reading of the throttle body thing in the GS section. Apparently one 'improvement' that might be made is to fit GS TBs, but they still wear eventually...

Must read up on balancing throttle bodies as opposed to carbs...:D

Dave.
