Hi

Just jumped from having a VFR for 3 years to buying a year old R1200GS on Sat there and I picked it up from JC in Dundee. Still smiling :D

Debated and debated, but after doing 200 or so miles on it yesterday, I am convinced I have done the right thing. Got off it last night and felt fresh as a daisy. Two regrets...did like the VFR, but it had to go as wasn't enjoying biking myuch and wanted to change from the all out riding style. Also lost so much money on it. Second regret...I didn't get a GS sooner.

Planned changes so far are:-

Full Remus system
Brighter bulbs
Full BMW Luggage at some point.
Tobinators
And a set of H&B engine bars.

Anyway, thought I would say hello and any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

(Welcome by the way!)

Welcome aboard Yello :thumb

Those brighter bulbs....don't expect too much from them, it's the reflector that's crap, not the bulbs, and brighter bulbs won't do that much for you I'm afraid.

Take a look around any pic of any GS meet....most of us have extra lights as a priority mod to get around the problem.....if you do a search on 'lights' etc, you'll have many hours reading to see what's possible and what others have done to solve the biggest weak spot of the GS.

Also do a search on the luggage......particularly as it's a 1200......you may well find that another brand or type of luggage may be a better buy ;)

As for the rest, the Remus, Tobinators and engine bars are spot on ;)

And we haven't even mentioned the satanic GPS systems yet :D

Being a true mountaineer...don't belive in GPS. ;)

Thanks for the advice. Any other recommendations on the luggage that opearte similar to the BMW stuff?

But it's true..it does exist!! :D

There was a good thread on that too.....it's not a replacement for maps, it's an enhancement, and allows you to....ah sod it, I won't carry on or it'll all kick off again

Quick....who remembers the thread ?

That's a possibility, but you might get a better result if you search for 'luddite' :D

FFS It's bad enough with Schtum being our resident spellchecker, now you have to start :(

Stop being an old grump Nevin....not a speelchick, but if he'd have searched for.....oh sod it, I can't be arsed

Look at this and cheer up ;)

Extras for the GS

By all means ask for everybody's advice but DON'T go rushing out to buy any extras until you've covered a good few miles and you will have a better idea of how to spend your money. The BMW cases I find really excellent (bearing in mind that because we have this fashionable upswept exhaust the LH one is very small) & they are easy to put on and take off. I don't find that they affect the handling - but others will disagree. I have the BMW tank bag on virtually all the time for odd bits of shopping etc.
I find that the standard screen is fine - at least up to around 100 mph - but again others seem to get buffeted.
I hesitate to buy any extras non standard BMW - but Touratech and Wunderlich offer some tempting items - but do you NEED them ? Anyway it is a fantastic 'bike and outdates ALL the other GS's whatever you read ! Brian

BMW Luggage

Having had a few looks at the 1200 luggage system, it is seriously over engineered. There's a catch to catch the catch FFS!

Start with Givi and look up the price tree from there. :thumb
