K&N Filter on 1200GS?

Anyone fit a K&N Filter on their 1200GS. Did you have to add a powercommander or something similar?

They don't do a powercommander for the 1200GS so your options are limited. I fitted a K&N, pipe and Wunderlich chip and the fueling was optimal using the Wunderlich suggested settings. Btw the bike was running lean even with just the pipe.
Must say the Wunderlich chip is crude - you can't iron out peaks and troughs in the power/ torque curves as you can with a powercommander. The profile of the curve is pretty poor to be honest (obvious dips at 4k rpm and 5.5k I seem to remember) - shame that can't be corrected.

K&N and Remus at Altitude

I have Remus Headers (CAT removed) and a Remus Genesis Can, and am about to fit a K&N filter.
Johannesburg is at altitude (1,800m if memory serves me correctly) - does anybody have any idea how this will affect the mixture?
My guess is that the filter, headers, and exhause help the engine 'breath', but the altitude means that the air is thinner - end result neutral (or simulates a standard bike at sea level?). The bike is run on '95' fuel.

K & N Filter

I have Remus front pipes (cat removed) and a Scorpion can with a K & N Filter fitted, no problems whatsoever runs like a dream. No flat spots or lean problems.

The filter and front pipes were fitted by a main agent.

Regards

Thanks for the advice all, just ordered a filter from nippy normans!

Mine's a 1200 GS

I've ordered a Wunderluch Power Controller from NN (allows you to set mixture at various points on the Rev Curve and also the area where the O2 sensor has an effect - if I've read the bumf correctly!).

I have the Remus headers (no cat) and Remus Genesis 'free flowing' exhaust (everything seems fine), but think I will hold off fitting the K&N until the Power Controller arrives.

On my GSA I have the full Remus Genesis system (headers ceramic coated), K&N filter and the Wonderlick PC (at qouted settings for aftermarket can)... basically they all compliment one another and the bike literally flies! The larger diameter Remus headers are a key element in the system as proved by dyno runs in the USA.

That's what I meant by Wunderlich chip. This will solve the leant mixture at high revs you will get if you fit the K&N but they give limted adjustability. I tried different settings on a dyno (same set up as yours) but the ones they recommend in the instructions worked bet.

That's good to know - I'll be fitting mine soon and was wondering if I ought to set it up on a dyno :nenau

I'll use the settings they reccomend, thanks :thumb2

yep we spent half an hour fiddling and couldn't improve on the recommmended settings. Wunderlich seem to know what they're doing.

I fitted an Akrapovic full race system (headers and twin cans)to my 12GSA, fitted a K&N, put it on dyno, was running too lean, had to put back standard air filter. I was told that a power commander will not be available for a long while.

Fitted my K&N filter and it makes a difference. I noticed that the engine did not hesitate at all when i open up the throttle to overtake. There is no major power difference, just notice a much cleaner "pull" from the engine. Very happy with the purchase!
