Hi everyone

Am after some advice from those who have some technical knowledge on the K1300S.

Last week I took the bike out and it started without any problems however during the journey the bike stalled and I had to jump start it. when I reached my destination I parked the bike and tried to start it but the battery appeared flat.

When I left an hour later the bike started at first attempt.

The following day the same thing happened and I had to jump start it again.

A couple of days later it did the same however when I turned off the ignition the starter continued to crank the engine.

This time however the ignition lights failed to come on and when I returned to the bike it still wouldn't start and ignition lights were dead.

Believing the battery was dead I then connected a set of jump leads and noticed sparks coming from the battery terminals.

I then noticed the battery was extremely hot.

The bike was recovered to a BMW dealer who found a short in the main loom had burnt out the loom causing the bike to die.

I have done some research and found that there is a known HOT STARTING issue with this bike which is resolved by replacing a particular cable and the starter motor relay.

I suspect the wiring loom issue was as a result of the known issue behind the hot starting and find it hard to believe the two issues are unrelated especially when they occurred at the same time.

Any advice or instances of similar experiences would be greatly appreciated

IIRC there was an additional lead to the starter from the battery added to overcome hot starting issues. Didn't know the relay got changed too but you may be right.

Simple enough to ask the Dealer to check if the recall had been done.

Ditto

My mates just had the same problem on his K1300R...warranty job done to cure it.

Guess BM know about it :nenau

Do you know if the wiring loom on your mates bike burnt out as it has on mine. My battery got fried in the process.

Ive had cars do this when the crank position sensor was failing. OK cold but stopped working when hot so engine wont run. It often doesn't show a fault code because the ECU simply thinks the engine has stalled.

My mate also. BMW recall. Phone dealer for the fix to be done.
